Alpha's Blind Luna novel Chapter 54

Of all the idiotic plans, this one had be up there on the dumbest fucking plans to date. Especially when lives were at stake. I pinched the bridge of my nose; like mother like son. The two of them were definitely going to get me killed one day. I couldn’t believe I lasted this long anyways. Every day was a gift and here was that gift being ripped out from under me.

He made it sound so easy. Go down an empty corridor, find a hidden door, head down, grab six kids, and walk on out of the territory to a waiting group of vampires and witches. Huffing, I threw my hands up.

'He’s very much our loves son.' Rydere chuckled.

'Sure. But shall we list off the things that could go wrong?' I paced in the small room.

Rydere rolled his eyes and laid down. 'I’m sure you will tell me anyways.'

'Not only am I going to have to go in unseen, somehow find this magical door that Vale described but I’ve never seen. Go down and somehow convince six children that I’m a good werewolf when they have been deathly afraid of werewolves this whole time. We don’t know the condition they are in. We don’t know if I’m going to somehow carry all six kids out myself. Then we are just walking out of this castle and straight out of the territory without a single person finding us. Fuck this plan.'

'I think I saw three grey hairs grow out of your head, Hector.'

I growled at him. 'You know, sometimes I think Auri’s mind must be so fucking peaceful.'

Rydere chuckled again. 'Our love would trade anything to have her wolf back. At least Kai could talk some sense into her. Fucking taking Nova again. What is she thinking?'

Nodding, I sighed and looked out the window. 'We will deal with it when we get home. Knock some sense into her.'

'For now, we have to survive this plan.'

Closing my eyes, I leaned back against the wall. This placed smelled like mildew and I could see why Vale felt uncomfortable here. The whole territory felt off. Even after taking a day or two in the city, everyone seemed off. Everyone was walking on egg shells and wary of each other. The supposed border patrol was maybe five wolves for the entire territory. It seemed like this whole pack was ass backwards. Not to mention their Beta was a joke.

I hadn’t even had a conversation with the Alpha outside of the initial chat we had and Vale was even less liked. It still irked me to no end that he was playing dumb in front of them but since we picked up the sparring sessions, the warriors seemed to have a little more respect for him. I didn’t understand why he continued to force this weird idea but it seemed like it worked enough to allow him to find the missing kids. It just all seemed odd. That, after losing pups, they would steal other children. The Alpha was definitely not mated or his Luna would have murdered him.

The weird prickle of Vale’s mind link made me wrinkle my nose. 'It’s time, Hector. We are leaving for the front lines. I told them you would follow us after a few hours cause I wasn’t about to wake up a sleeping bear.'

'Thanks. I appreciate giving me the best reputation.'

Vale laughed through the mind link. 'Depending on how they explain their idiocy, you might keep that reputation in-tacked.'

'Lovely. Is that High Councilor coming with you as well?'

'Yes. We are running in wolf form. Get going, Hector. Jess and Peter are waiting for you in the forest with the head witch and a few other coven members.'

'Fuck. This just keeps getting worse.'

His mind link broke and I knew he was too far. Opening up the door, I looked around but there wasn’t a single wolf in the hallway. Shutting the door behind me, I walked down the hall and took the stairs to the first floor. Vale had drawn out a map on his phone of the castle and I also took a couple days to orient myself as well. But I hadn’t ever been down that hallway.

I walked into the kitchen and grabbed an apple, a few of the girls from the kitchen staff giggled as I sent them a wink. Really, this whole pack walked on eggshells but showing them a little kindness seemed to melt their hard exteriors. They were busy prepping a huge meal. My eyes narrowed.

“Are you taking that to the front line?”

One of the males nodded but didn’t speak. I didn’t ask anything else and left them to it. They looked almost done and hopefully this would clear the path for me to head out the door that was on the right side of the kitchen.

It was one of the few exits in this place. For how many damn rooms, four exits did not seem like enough. Especially, when trying to escape with tiny humans. My nose wrinkled and I took a couple loafs of bread along with two more apples and headed out of the kitchen.

Using mostly my hearing, I tried to check to see if I could hear anything down the hallways.

'I don’t think anyone is here, Hector.'

'Do you know how many times I’ve heard that out of you and we got our asses caught with our dick in our hand?'

Rydere snickered but retreated back a little. He was ready to take over if needed. As much as he continued to be the voice of sass, he was strong and was more than once the reason why we had survived the worst scrapes.

My head looked down the hallways that supposedly had the hidden door. There was no one and it looked like a dead end, only a window at the end of the hall. Walking down the hall, I faced the left side and eyed the wall. It all looked like stone. One wall of stone. Placing all the food into one arm, I turned around and pulled the light fixture on the opposite wall.

After a moment, I heard the faint sound of grinding behind me as I pulled the light all the way down. I was surprised at just how quiet it was when opening. I was expecting more stone grinding against stone. Once it opened, though, I peaked my head in but it was a long staircase down into the ground.

It smelled terrible. It took the cake for worst smelling places I had been in. My eyes watered as I walked down the stairs. The smell of excrement and mold and death and all number of disgusting smells forced me to try and breath out my mouth. Bryan had dragged me to a number of questionable brothels with very questionable smells. Hell, even the bloody battlefield smelled better than this. The stairs ended and the room opened up to bunch of different smells. The walls were all the same stone but moss grew and dripped between them.

I walked down the cells to the very last one. There was a huddled mass that I didn’t think I could even describe as human anymore. Reaching the doors, I went down on my knees in front of the children. My eyes looked over them and it broke my heart.

“Hello.”

A few of them watched me walk in but now all eyes were on me. They were all suspicious and angry, which filled me with a sense of relief. They hadn’t broken yet, their spirits were still in-tacked.

“Can any of you still speak?”
