Arrogant Man VS Unyielding Woman novel Chapter 185

The Wen family had only themselves to blame for what happened to them.

The morally upright Jean never had a place at home, ever since her mother passed away.

The situation became worse after her stepmother Joy gave birth to Shirley and Winner. Ever since, they were thought of as children of the Wen family, and she was the fifth wheel.

To add insult to injury, Henry 'sold' her in order to rake in profit from her later.

It was only after Zed's entry into her life, that things changed for the better.

The Wens though still lived by their morally corrupt ways. Seeing them get to such a low point, Jean sighed softly but knew that they deserved it.

She did not go to see Henry even when she was right outside his hospital room. It was not because she was hard-hearted.

She had just had enough of their greed and lust, and didn't want anything to do with them.

What she could do was to keep an eye on them from a distance and constantly keep herself updated.

The loyal Jean had resolved to never make trouble for Zed.

As for the Wen family, they could do whatever they wanted. It was none of her business to meddle in their affairs anyway.

Jean went home by car, tired and drowsy. She dragged herself to the guest room but smelled a whiff of perfume in the air right at its entrance.

A wide-eyed Jean couldn't fathom its source. Worse still, when she pushed the door open, she saw a gorgeous woman with long hair lying on the big bed.

The sun was climbing up in the sky and shafts of sunlight fell on the white satin bedcover.

The unknown woman was simply lying on the bed, unaware that she was being watched by Jean. Her face could be called exquisite with porcelain skin and long lush eyelashes.

She looked like a vision, or as if she was the woman of every man's dream. Even though her eyes were closed, Jean knew it that she was a sensuous beauty.

'Come on, Zed, are you so impatient that you had to have a fling while I was out for only one night?'

Swallowing hard, Jean's shoulders slumped with all that she was witnessing in the last 48 hours. The sadness wore her down and she turned towards the door.

"Who are you?" The doorknob was in Jean's hand when she heard a velvety hesitating voice speak to her.

Jean looked behind to see that the woman had woken up and was sitting on the bed. Oh, no.

She was a young girl, to be exact.

With her elbows propped on her knees, the girl had gathered the quilt in her lap. She looked a bit sleepy-eyed due to the sudden waking up.

Noticing her properly, Jean felt that she was right on her being a beauty. Though there was no exquisite makeup on her face, her chiseled face and vivid expressions could attract any onlooker.

Especially her big bright eyes, which mesmerized with the coloured glaze. The girl looked back at Jean with an openness and wonder, that all looked too sincere.

Embracing herself to break the silence, Jean prepped herself to play the hostess.

But as soon as Jean spoke, she knew she could not bear to do it to the girl.

"I'm Jean Wen, and who are you?"

"Are you my sister-in-law?" The young girl's eyes suddenly lit up. She got off the bed quickly and walked towards Jean, her face full of excitement. She looked carefully up and down at Jean and smiled. Enthusiastically, she stretched her right hand towards Jean and said, "Hi, I'm Jesse Tang."

Jesse...... Tang......

Repeating the name under her breath, Jean turned grave. Looking at Jesse's delicate hands, Jean took a deep breath and decided not to shake hands with her. "Hi, " said Jean coolly.

"We are of the same age, I think. Can I call you Jean?" Looking at Jean with curiosity, Jesse innocently asked, "Sister-in-law sounds like a term the old and mature will use for each other. Jean, how did you get married at such a young age? I have known Zed to be a nice man, but don't you think it's a pity to lose your freedom this early in life?"

Jesse waited for her to reply. She looked at Jean affably and hardly seemed to have noticed Jean's coolness.

With her hands playing a turn softly at Jean's body, she was trying to get close to Jean, "You must be knowing that Zed is an excellent human being. I was afraid that if I didn't marry him when I met him, someone else would have nabbed him." A hint of a smile played on Jean's lips though there was no expression on her face. Jesse couldn't agree more. Nodding, Jesse said, "You're right, Jean. Ever since I was a child, I used to wonder what Zed's wife would be like. Finally, I meet her, which means you today. I couldn't be happier and excited to have met you."

Tetchily, Jean conceded that Jesse was excited but delighted? Where was that coming from?

Honestly, she just could not sense a trace of joy in Jesse at all.

As soon as Jean realized it was she, the woman Zed spoke to late in the night, she had become a potential threat to their relationship. Yet now that Jean was in front of her, she had no feelings towards her.

With lack of rest or sleep on two nights in a row had dulled her. Seeing Jesse in the guest bedroom had put her in a bad mood.

"Excuse me, I'm leaving for my room. I am tired right now." Jean nodded at Jesse and turned towards the master bedroom.

"Take good rest! I'll be staying here for a while. We can have a good talk then. I am sure we'll really get along with each other." A sunny Jesse said to Jean.

This time Jean didn't even bother to reply perfunctorily, and increased her pace to the bedroom.

Leaden and sombre, Jean leaned against the door.

The girl looked innocent, without any trace of guile in her behaviour.

She could never have imagined that the one who had Zed's love and tenderness would be this innocent and sincere. She would have believed what she saw of Jesse if she hadn't heard the phone conversation between her husband and she before.

Taking in a deep breath, Jean knew that Jesse's behaviour was not as simple as she had observed.

She was wary and thought of being on guard with Jesse a good idea.

Sliding in the master bedroom. Jean tried to quitely close the door but by then Zed was awake.

Seeing Jean in the bedroom, Zed was surprised for a few seconds. He quickly got up to say, "You're back! How is Moore now?"

"The crisis has passed and he has woken up from coma." Showing no sign of emotion, Jean picked up her clothes and went into the bathroom.

She was raring for a hot water bath right now. Her sticky body was already driving her crazy and Jean had had a long day.

After spending half an hour in the bathroom, Jean's mood improved a little. She walked towards the bedroom to untangle her wet hair.

By then, Zed was dressed in his nightshirt. He strode over to Jean when he saw her coming out. Gentleman-like, he took the towel from her and offered to help her dry her hair.

With her eyes closed and her spirits up, Jean knew very well that Zed had something to say to her since he was waiting there.

After some minutes of silence, Zed spoke, "Jean, take rest at home today. You must be bone-tired after last night. Don't worry about Moore. I'll send someone to the hospital to stand guard. You first have a good rejuvenating sleep."

Tentatively, Jean opened her eyes and said in a casual tone, "Have we got a visitor at home?" I saw a beautiful girl in the guest room."

"Well, she is Jesse. She has just come back from the Imperial Capital, and will stay at our home for a couple of days." Zed answered in a matter-of-fact way.

"What…… is the relationship between you two?" Jean regretted the minute she asked the question.

She knew that nothing could convince her of the truth not even Zed's answer.

Therefore, asking him was an unnecessary move.

"The Qi and Tang family go way back and have been friends for generations. Jesse and I grew up together. Although, we aren't a brother and sister to each other, our relationship is better than what even siblings have." Turning Jean by the shoulders, Zed smiled and asked, "Are you satisfied with my answer? If you, my wife, have any other queries, just feel free to ask me anything anytime."

Zed had seen right through Jean and sensed what was on her mind. She couldn't help flushing with shame as mixed feelings tormented her heart.
