And that night, Brendan talked in his sleep.

Even though Naomi couldn’t quite make out what he was saying, she knew it was about Sophia.

But that incident didn’t involve her, and Sophia’s death had nothing to do with her. Brendan didn’t have. the right to pin the blame on her.

But she and Brendan couldn’t go back to how things were before either. Neither of them could let go of the past.

All her indifference was just an act. She was just better at playing the game than he was.

At the same time, Brendan returned to Yellowind Bay with a dark expression. He didn’t respond even when Jennifer called him for dinner and went straight upstairs.

Seeing the empty bedroom, Brendan felt a sudden chill. The room seemed devoid of life.

Looking over at the desk, he remembered Naomi’s busy figure and her teasing smile. She seemed to be seducing him most of the time, but in reality, she never cared.

Nothing was more important to her than her parents‘ work and the Goodwin Corporation.

Brendan walked over to the window and lit a cigarette. He recalled the night Naomi was kidnapped, how she dealt with Tom even before he arrived, and how she didn’t need his help. All of it left a bad taste in his mouth.

He didn’t know when Naomi stopped needing him so much. She could take care of herself and even her

parents.

He took a puff before stubbing out the cigarette in the ashtray. All of a sudden, his phone rang. It was a call from Jason.

Brendan answered the call, and Jason reported, “Mr. Ludwig, Ms, Goodwin went to the town Charles was from this afternoon. She’ll be back by Friday.”

As expected, Maximus’s return this time wasn’t just for work.
