Have I Told You Lately novel Chapter 147

All her anger came into a laugh. Rachel took a breath and smiled, “It’s the first time that I find Mr Louis is good-looking and charming. It’s hard for me to ignore his existence, unless I’m not straight. It’s cool to have him drive me to the company.”

Maurice felt awkward and said nothing.

Kenneth replied with understatement, “His girlfriend is studying abroad. You’d better give up that kind of idea.”

“……”

The smile on Rachel’s face froze. She felt terribly bad. She gnashed and spat, “Get lost!”

She hung up the phone. Her chest heaved with anger.

Maurice opened the rear door, and spoke in a respectful tone, “Ms Lewis.”

With a gloomy face, Rachel stared at the car a few seconds. The scabbed scar on her forehead almost opened up. She suddenly squinted at Maurice, “Your girlfriend is studying abroad?”

Maurice didn’t look much younger than her, so it wasn’t strange that he had a girlfriend.

Maurice was stunned. His serious face for the first time went into a confused one. But he soon nodded his head, “Yes.”

She pinched lips and got in the car finally.

It was such a relief to Maurice. He closed the door, went around the front and got into the car.

The car stopped not far from the office building.

“Ms Lewis, I’ll stay in the car so people won’t mistake us. I’ll wait here for you. You can come over when you get off work.”

Rachel stopped taking out money. She was startled, “Till I get off work? You’re not going to wait here for me the whole day? Don’t you have anything else to attend to?”

“No, this is my everyday work. Most of my work is just waiting.”

Rachel frowned and passed him the money, replied in a cold voice, “I don’t care what your job is. It’s the fee for this ride. I won’t take your car anymore. Suit yourself.”

As she finished, she got out of the car and slammed the door, walking towards the office building without looking back.

Two desk clerks at the service counter saw her and greeted, “Good morning, Ms Lewis.”

“Good morning.” Rachel greeted naturally.

The two desk girls were surprised. They asked with concern, “Ms Lewis, you don’t look well. Are you sick?”

“I’m fine. I probably didn’t sleep well.” Rachel smiled and walked to the office with a handbag.

How can she be in good mood concerning she was pissed off in the early morning?

The wound on her forehead wasn’t exactly healed, and now it pained her again because of anger.

In the morning, after finishing the urgent matter, Rachel booked a long-journey ticket to L city online. She picked up the things she needed and then asked a day off from Mr Lopez. Then she left the company.

She didn’t forget Maurice who was waiting for her there. It must be hard to get rid of him if he found her, so she walked around the building one more circle and left in another direction.

……

HX district, L city, the Cedar Cemetery.

It took quite a while for Rachel to find the cemetery with the help of navigation. She asked the cemetery keeper and she finally found the grave.

The lady was an old late friend of her father’s, so she wore dark color clothes today. Rachel bent and put the flowers quietly before the grave. She gazed at the name on the gravestone, with a faint smile on her face, she murmured, “Ms Martha, sorry to bother you. I’m Chapman Lewis’ daughter. He asked me……”

Gentle breeze ruffled her hair. It was quiet in the cemetery. The brilliant sunlight was warm enough, but she could only felt coldness and dead silence here.

Rachel talked in a low voice, as if she was having a conversation with herself. She left after some time.

She didn’t know who the woman was, and also didn’t ask her relationship with her father, or even why she died. The past was gone and nothing she could do to what happened back then. She really didn’t get time to delve into it.
