I'm Your Sister, Brother Chow novel Chapter 34

As soon as the lift reached the ground floor, the doors opened with a soft beep.

"See you tomorrow, Mr. President," Ethan said with a slight nod of his head. He was about to step out of the elevator when Chow said stiffly to him. "Stop thinking nonsense. She will never be the reason for my happiness. You must be out of your mind!"

Ethan was rather speechless and taken aback when he heard Chow chiding him in such a weird and informal way.

...

"Yes, Mr. President. I won't think nonsense anymore," Ethan said with another nod before finally leaving.

Chow snorted coldly as he watched the lift doors close. He let out another scoff. "Nonsense."

He just wanted to sleep early tonight. How could Ethan think that he wanted to go back to see Vivian?

What nonsense!

Beep!

The lift soon arrived at the underground parking lot. Chow hurried to his car with a dark look on his face, not realising that he was walking a lot faster than usual.

...

Celine stood by the window, looking at the bright lights outside her window. She was still holding onto her phone tightly, waiting for it to ring.

But the call never came.

It had been two days.

Chow still hadn't contacted her since she was chauffered to work from the Howard Mansion after that rainy night.

This wasn't even the first time something like this had happened.

In actuality, since becoming a couple with Chow nearly three years ago, he had never taken the initiative to contact her.

Whether it was dining together, going out on dates, or spending the night, she was the one who made the first step each time. Sometimes, she even had to schedule her dates with Chow through Ethan, his assistant.

Celine always thought that Chow never treated her as a proper girlfriend.

Still, it shouldn't matter too much. She had used that as an excuse to make him her boyfriend, so she wasn't going to give up so easily.

Once she got the title of 'Mrs. Howard', Chow would naturally be hers anyway.

Celine stared at the phone in her hands and thought for a long time. Finally, she dialled Chow's number.

Chow's caller ringtone immediately sounded in her ears. She left the window and paced slowly about in her room.

The ringtone played for a long while before Chow finally picked up. His voice sounded rather gruff and impatient. "Hello? What's the matter, why are you calling so late at night?"

Celine bit down heavily on her lower lip and forced herself to ignore his cold attitude. "What? Must there be a reason for a girlfriend to call her boyfriend?"

Chow didn't laugh it off or reply with anything sweet as she had expected. On the contrary, he sounded even more impatient than before. "If there's nothing you want from me, I'm hanging up. I'm tired and I just want to go home as soon as I can."

It was only then that Celine realised Chow must be driving.

He wanted to go home as soon as he could?

Did he want to go back to be with Vivian?

Celine's heart dropped. Technically, Vivian was Chow's sister. Chow had also expressed more than once that he hated Vivian with all his guts.

However, deep in her heart, it felt as if there was actually something more to what was shown to her. She felt rather uneasy about Vivian. It was as if she should perhaps be warier of her.

...

"Are you on the way home? Why don't you come over? I miss you so much. And if you come over, I can give you a massage to ease your tiredness."

Celine had purposely chosen a place just a stone's throw away from the Howard Mansion for nights like these.

However, Chow rejected her without hesitation. "Forget it, I'll just go back to shower and get some sleep. That's about it."

As soon as Chow finished speaking, he hung up at once.

"Hello? Hello!" Celine anxiously shouted into the phone, but she heard nothing else after that.

She glanced at the phone screen that had lighted up with the call-ended notification and felt a surge of anger in her heart.

Celine finally couldn't hold back her anger any longer. She kicked at the sofa next to her with all her might but accidentally hit the metal edge instead. An intense wave of pain immediately started to spread from her toes.

Celine cried out in pain. She quickly sat on the couch and kicked off her slippers to examine her toes. "F*ck, even the stupid sofa is against me!"

After cursing at the sofa, Celine started flinging the cushions onto the floor as well.

All of a sudden, a bell went off in her head.

Celine bit her lips tightly, held her phone in her hands, and walked out of the room.

Soon, she reached the stairs leading to the living room downstairs.

She lowered her head and looked at the stairs. There was a trace of fear in her eyes, but this fear was quickly replaced by a stubborn look.

She refused to believe that Chow really didn't care about her at all.

Celine walked up to the staircase, closed her eyes, and let herself fall.

Bang!

A muffled thud rang through the air. Celine fell heavily onto the stairs and tumbled a few more times until she reached the bottom of the stairs.

"Sh*t!" Celine sat up from the ground and looked at her ankle.

It was quickly starting to swell.

Celine didn't even bother to examine her injuries before dialling Chow's number once more.

By the time Chow picked up, her face was already covered in tears. "Chow, I-I just tumbled down the stairs. It hurts so much. Can you come over quickly?"

Even if Chow usually paid no heed to Celine, she was still his girlfriend after all. He wasn't as heartless as to leave her alone when she was seriously hurt.

So, he quickly drove over to her place, picked her up, and drove to the hospital nearby.

This was Holy City's best and finest hospital. Coincidentally, 80% of its shares were owned by Raylan's family, the Gordons, who were close acquaintances with the Howard family. In addition to that, Raylan had just returned to the country and was working as an intern at this hospital too.

Of course, few people in the hospital knew about Raylan's real identity.

Celine was quickly wheeled into the examination room by a nurse.

Despite the pleading look in her eyes, Chow didn't follow her into the examination room. Instead, he lit up a cigarette and took a few steps away from the room.

But before he could take another puff, the cigarette was snatched away.

Raylan appeared next to Chow in a white coat. He snuffed out the cigarette and threw it into the dustbin. "This is a hospital. You can't smoke in here."

Chow had already heard him approaching from behind so he wasn't completely surprised.

Between them, the awkward atmosphere from the other night had long dissipated.

After throwing away the cigarette, Raylan nodded towards the examination room. "Who's that?" he asked. "Must be someone really important for you to bring her here personally."

Chow glared at him and replied in a gruff voice. "She's my girlfriend."

A hint of surprise flashed across Raylan's eyes. He couldn't help glancing at the examination room again. "Girlfriend? When did you get yourself a girlfriend?"

Chow slid his hand into his pocket and replied with a nonchalant expression. "Don't remember, maybe two or three years ago."

"Two or three years ago?" Raylan echoed loudly in shock. "Such a long time ago? Why haven't I ever heard you mention her?"

Chow just looked at him lazily. "You were abroad and she was no one important. What was there to talk about? You've already seen her now anyway."

Despite the little dispute between them both that day, Raylan still knew that he had a firm friendship with Chow.

That was why he thought that there was another side to the story. "So, she's just another plaything, then? You're not serious about her?" he asked. "There must be something really attractive about her for you to keep her around for three years."

Chow hesitated for a moment and shifted on his feet. "She's not a plaything," he said in a low voice.

"Huh?" Raylan was puzzled.

Chow glanced at him, but there was no expression in his eyes. "I said it wasn't for fun. There's a chance that we'll get married one day."

"Married?" Raylan was really shocked this time.

They were about the same age, at twenty-two years old. Chow had completed his degree five years ago and taken over the company from his grandfather since graduating, so he had matured a lot earlier than the rest of his peers.

However, Raylan didn't think that Chow would have already thought of marriage at such a young age.

"Why are you thinking about marriage so early? It seems that you don't even like her very much. Is it her family background that's beneficial to your company?"

It was not Raylan's fault for thinking this way. He just couldn't think of any other reason to see Chow, who had always acted unreasonably, marry a random woman.

Chow snorted and looked at Raylan with a raised eyebrow. "Did you think that the Howard family still needs to rely on a political marriage for anything?"

Hearing Chow's reply, Raylan shook his head meekly.

Although a political marriage could help Chow expand the business, Raylan understood that even without the help, Chow could still achieve it in the shortest time possible.

However, he couldn't find any other reason for Chow to marry that woman. "Since you don't like her and it's not a political marriage, why else would you want to marry her?"

Chow scoffed and looked out into the dark night. "It's just a marriage. It doesn't matter who I'm marrying."

In his mind, there was never the concept of marriage for love.

This so-called 'marriage' was just a mundane ceremony solely for the purpose of reproduction.
