Lenny and Scarlett novel Chapter 29

Scarlet had to get to the bus station as soon as possible.

There was a sharp turn ahead, which she approached. She didn't expect to meet a car. She was so startled that she staggered backward, lost her balance, and fell to the ground.

The car came to a screeching halt, making a particularly harsh sound against the wet pavement.

Drake broke out in cold sweat. No one usually passed through this area on foot, so he decided not to honk the horn and only switch the headlights to high beam.

To his surprise, a woman crossed the road out of nowhere.

Fortunately, he stopped the car in time and didn't hit her.

"Mr. Foster, I'll just go check if the lady is okay."

Drake grabbed an umbrella and got out of the car. He didn't expect that the woman he almost hit was Scarlet.

"Miss Brown? What are you doing around here?"

Scarlet was a mess, and she felt embarrassed looking like this in front of Drake. She quickly got up and shivered because of the cold rain.

Drake hurried to hold the umbrella above her head.

"I... I left something at the villa and went to get it. Mr. Cooper... May I borrow your umbrella? I really want to go home now."

Scarlet was drenched all over. She tightly wrapped her arms around herself, hoping that it would dispel some of the cold.

Seeing her like this, Drake was worried. The rain was too heavy. It would be dangerous for Scarlet to go home on her own.

He glanced at Lenny in the car.

"Get in the car. You're going to catch a cold if you keep going like this. You should stay in the villa for the night," Lenny said.

"But I..."

"Miss Brown, please get in the car. You can't make it home like this. You're going to get sick."

As soon as Drake finished speaking, Scarlet sneezed.

Drake was right. She couldn't catch a cold right now. She had to think about her baby.

So, she had no choice but to get in the car, but she didn't sit in the back seat. Instead, she occupied the passenger seat, deliberately avoiding Lenny.

Seeing Scarlet open the door to the passenger seat, Lenny slightly narrowed his eyes. Why did she avoid sitting with him? Did she dislike him?

Upon seeing this, Drake was also stunned. He chanced a glance at Lenny once again. Seeing that his boss didn't look the least bit satisfied, Drake instantly felt restless.

"Miss Brown, how about... How about you sit with Mr. Foster in the back? The back seat is more spacious."

"No, thank you. I'm fine sitting here. I don't want to disturb Mr. Foster."

Mr. Foster? Lenny frowned.

The way she addressed him sounded especially harsh to Lenny's ears.

He found that ever since they got divorced, Scarlet had begun calling him Mr. Foster. She had been polite and formal to him, as if they hadn't spent an entire year as a married couple.

Lenny couldn't explain what he was feeling at the moment. He was sure that he would feel annoyed if Scarlet pestered him after their divorce.

But now that she was avoiding him like the plague and wouldn't even make eye contact with him, he felt upset.

He felt bad that his ex-wife was treating him like a complete stranger.

He also considered that maybe Scarlet was just playing hard to get. But if she really were a scheming woman to begin with, then she wouldn't have done nothing while they were still married.

Maybe she really just didn't want to have anything to do with him. It all finally became clear to Lenny. And because of this, he felt uncomfortable.

Very uncomfortable.

After getting in the car, Drake grabbed a clean blanket for Scarlet and raised the temperature of the air conditioner.

Scarlet patted herself dry and sneezed several times.

According to the news on the radio, the rain was caused by an autumn typhoon, which wasn't supposed to pass through Wellholt. But somehow, the typhoon deviated from its course and brought heavy thunderstorms to the city.

As the rain poured and poured, the winds also began getting stronger. Scarlet couldn't make it home in this weather. Even Drake might have to stay overnight at the villa as well.

Drake drove carefully and slowly until they arrived at the villa. Lenny got out as soon as the car stopped in the courtyard.

Before he could enter the house, Rosaline came running out. She hurled herself into his arms.

"Lenny, I'm so glad you're home. The thunderstorm is scaring me."

Lenny stiffened for a moment. Even though Rosaline had thrown herself into his arms many times, he still hadn't gotten used to it.

He patted her back stiffly and replied, "Don't be afraid. I'm here now."

It wasn't until then that Rosaline noticed Scarlet's presence. The moment she laid eyes on Lenny's ex-wife, her eyes widened.

What was this woman doing here?
