My Most Precious Human novel Chapter 37

I was dead tired. My office work had already stressed me out, but compared to everything that happened at the court trial, my time at the bank felt almost relaxing. I was glad that a kind of justice had been served, but the events from my time in the headquarters of the Great Council filled me with anxieties I couldn't even explain.

I knew that the Duke of Calvet had power and authority among other vampires, but the fact that really worried me was that he had already messed with my father twice in one week. He killed Declan, one of my father's warriors, and his entire team, and now he had indirectly caused the death of another important member of my father's pack. Not that any of them hadn't deserved their fate.

Declan alone was responsible for killing half of the pack that once decided to go against my father's wishes. The pack was weak; they didn't pose a threat to anyone, and they only wished for peace. Declan and his team attacked that pack, wiping them all out, including women and children. I had never met Brian Myers. He clearly wasn't a type of warrior, but from the fact that he was working for my father, I could already guess that he wasn't exactly a saint either. As much as I could call killing them cruel but righteous, I couldn't shake off the fact that my father wouldn't leave such an insult without an answer…

I sighed upon entering my room, then dropped my dress onto the floor and went to the bathroom. The warm water from the shower helped me wash off some of the restlessness. I would gladly put myself to bed, but I couldn't refuse Sariel. At least Pinot Noir didn't sound like a bad idea.

I walked back to my bedroom and noticed that somebody had placed a beautiful, dark purple evening dress on my bed. There was also a short note attached to it.

"Wear it," the note said.

For a brief moment, I felt like Cinderella going to a ball, despite the fact that my dress was clearly from another story, one for slightly "older" children... I smiled faintly and touched it. The fabric was soft and delicate. I could guess that it cost more than half of my month's salary. I had never worn something like that in my life. I had never been to a ball either. I couldn't help but smile, feeling like a little girl from a childhood I had never had.

I put on the dress, and it fitted perfectly. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and hardly recognized myself. The neckline gently exposed the valley between my breasts. Its fitted cut flattered my waist and hips, and the slit that ended higher than half of my thigh revealed my quite shapely leg. For the first time, I thought that all those years of constant training had at least given me a body I could be proud of. Thankfully, my genes let me develop a fit shape without overgrown muscles.

"I think I look like a… woman." I giggled, turning around in front of the mirror.

I redid my make-up, wore a pair of Louboutins I found beside my bed, and marched towards the dining room. When I was getting closer, I heard Dominique's laughter. I guess they started celebrating without me. I knocked on the door.

"Come in, Lilith," Dominique sang cheerfully.

I entered with a nervous smile on my face. Sariel was sitting at the end of the table, facing the entrance. Dominique was sitting on his right side.

"Sit in front of me," Dominique called, chuckling.

My smile became even more nervous as I walked through the entire room to take my seat where she pointed, which was on Sariel's left side.

"My, my… If you don't mark her brother, then I will gladly do so." Dominique licked her lips while looking me up and down.

"Lilith is not a lesbian like you, dear sister," Sariel commented with a smirk on his face, then took a sip of wine from his glass.

"But maybe she would like doing it with a girl. You don't know unless you try." She winked at me.

I restrained myself from answering her. I already felt awkward feeling her devouring me with her eyes, and somehow I felt that saying that I preferred men wouldn't exactly help me feel more comfortable. On the contrary, it might just add more fuel to the fire Dominique had ignited.

Finally, I managed to sit down. Instantly a servant appeared out of nowhere to serve me a delicious-looking Beef Wellington and poured me a glass of wine.

"I knew her breasts would look delicious in this gown." Dominique grinned wickedly at Sariel.

He glared at his sister, but then cautiously examined my appearance in detail.

"Like I wasn't flustered enough before!" My hysteric mind sent thousands of signals through my body to speed up my heartbeat.
