Take Me Away novel Chapter 102

It seemed like a long while before the burst of applause finally came to a stop. Spencer let go of Fiona's hand and embraced her. 'That was mind-blowing!'

Fiona felt shy as she collapsed into Spencer's arms. She was speechless and her mind went blank.

"Let me take you someplace," he whispered in her ear once she recovered from her shyness.

"Where are we going?" Fiona asked softly.

"You'll know when we are there." He walked her out of the backstage and draped his coat over her shoulders.

Then, he carried her to his apartment under the bright moonlit sky.

"Are you feeling cold?" Spencer looked concerned.

"No, I'm not." Fiona shook her head. There was a new and unimaginable feeling in her heart and she didn't know what to think of it. Spencer was being so gentle and caring with her.

"We're almost here. It'll only be the two of us."

"Your apartment?" Fiona frowned as she took a closer look at where they were heading to.

"Why are we going there? Let's go to the top floor and look at the beautiful view." Spencer gave her a genuine smile that warmed her heart.

Fiona's lips twitched. "It's harsh winter now and it will be freezing cold. I don't want to go there."

"Haven't you heard of this thing called romance?" Spencer grunted.

"Well, romance should also be practical. If we go there tonight, we'll both end up being sick tomorrow morning." Fiona shook her head firmly and frowned. "So no, I don't want to go."

"You don't have a choice. You don't get to decide." Spencer carried her further. "Will you fall sick with me around?"

"But..." Fiona frowned. "What about the gala? You don't care about your men and their families?"

"Do you think it's my job to take care of everything that happens in the base no matter how big or small? That sounds rather exhausting." He took Fiona up the stairs. "They can have fun on their own, and we can have fun on our own. You are not celebrating New Year's Day anymore. You are celebrating my birthday."

Fiona was dumbfounded as he carried her to the top floor. The top floor had railings all around it. There was a beautiful tent in the middle adorned with small fairy lights. It looked like it was just put up a few hours ago. A campfire was set up in front of it, and a plate of pheasant and a bottle of wine sat next to it.

Fiona was so filled with joy that she was about to cry. It felt unbelievable that her husband had done all of this for her. "How did you do all this?"

"Do you feel moved that I did all this for you?" Spencer gave a smug smile. "Have a seat. I'll get us some roast pheasant to eat."

"Where did you even get the pheasant from?"

"I asked my men to hunt some for us. Wild pheasants are quite easy to find around this area," Spencer smiled.

Fiona smiled back. Then, she went and opened the tent. When she noticed a beautiful cake box placed inside it, she grabbed the box out of curiosity and peeked inside. The note read,

"Happy birthday, Spencer! Surprise!"

Fiona's lips curled into a smile.

"What are you doing, Fiona? I'm going to show you my roasting skills. Watch carefully!" Spencer placed the pheasant on the grill.

"What?" Fiona hid the cake box quickly, looked at him, and nodded. "Well... do you need any help?"

Spencer turned to look at her and grinned. "If you really want to help, then... come here and kiss me. It will motivate me."
