Bella was not expecting Axel, but Axel came because he had something urgent to discuss with her.

Despite Ralph’s crude character, he had considerate moments. Ralph went out of his way to buy Bella and Amelia some of their favorite pastries. He even stood in line for close to two hours.

He was surprised that Carrie was there too.

Had he known, he would have bought more. Ralph did not want to come across as playing favorites.

“Wow! Are these pastries in the shape of pandas the shop’s latest product? They look so cute!”

Amelia loved cute-looking pastries. Unable to resist, she put the whole pastry in her mouth.

Steven was shocked.

Amelia was usually very ladylike when dining with him. Steven figured that was because he did not get the right food for her.

Bella helped herself to one too. The smile on her face was infectious, and Justin took note of the pastry shop for future reference.

Justin would learn every tiny thing about Bella from her brothers.

Wyatt might not know Bella well, but her brothers certainly did. Since Justin would take over the responsibility of caring for Bella from the Thompsons, he wanted to make sure he did the best job.

Justin wanted Bella to spend every day feeling like she never parted with her family. Justin needed to play all the roles she needed him to be.

Even if Bella wanted to try something new, Justin was happy to go outside his comfort zone just to make her happy.

“Try this, Ms. Carrie.”

Ralph took a little panda pastry, approached Carrie, and bent over to hand it to her with a smile. “I didn’t know you’d be here, so I didn’t get enough pastries. I’ll make it up to you next time.”

Carrie loved the little panda and rubbed her hands to accept the pastry.
