The Educator novel Chapter 32

Elliot and I were having our dinner after the doctors told us the results of the test. According to Dr. Stevens, there was nothing to be worried about but she did advise us to constantly see her every six months for a check-up. I was feeling much better than I was a few hours ago.

“What do you want to do tomorrow?” Elliot asks me. I blink at him and he realizes, “well, that’s of course, if you want to go out still” he adds.

I shake my head, “Nah, I’ll be sending our clothes to the laundry and start packing. Bring out the clothes you will be wearing from tomorrow until we leave” I tell him.

Elliot’s face drops a little, probably a little disappointed. He places his bowl on the table, places my hand in his and raises my hand to his lips. Elliot is just silent but his eyes speak a thousand words.

I place my hand on his cheek, “Elliot, this is not your fault” I tell him. Elliot sighs and stays silent. “this is not something we expected, this not something we wanted to happen”.

“Eli, I have so much on my mind and this, what’s happening to you, is clouding my mind. I don’t know what to do, how to help you, how to protect you” he starts to say, “Eli, I have to tell you something” he adds.

I look at him blankly, waiting for him to continue, “What?”

Elliot clears his throat, “I have to add security to the apartment” he starts to say.

I nod, “I understand, Elliot”

“Wait, before you thank me, there’s something else”

“What?” I ask

“Once you start attending school, I’ll be providing you with a driver and a bodyguard. He will keep his distance, I promise” his tone is as if he was trying to convince me.

I know I should not scrimmage. I know I should be mad, the works but I wasn’t. I understood him. I know what this is, what had just happened. Elliot wasn’t doing this because he was just possessive, toxic or territorial. This is all for my safety, as well as his.

“Elliot, I understand. I know” I assure him, “but what about you? At the office?”

He sighs, “We will be adding more security personnel on each floor. We will be enhancing the security systems as well as add safety trainings for the security personnel”

“Elliot, what about your family?”

“I called them. I told them what happened. They were so worried about you”

I smile a little, knowing that his family is treating me like their own. Elliot’s family was not like any other arranged marriage family. They acted as if they’ve known me longer than anyone else. “I appreciate that, Elliot, but again, what about your family? Will you be adding security for them as well?”

He nods, “I have no other choice”. Elliot sighs and says, “I have added security for your family as well. But …” he trials off.

I raise a brow, “But. . .” I urge him to continue.

“But I have not told them of what happened” he says, “they raised questions on the added security but I told them I would be explaining everything when we get home”

“What about the housewarming?” I asked

He looks at me for a moment, “We could still have it but it would be limited to immediate family” he tells me. I sigh and lean back on the headboard. I was already planning the part in my head, the food, the invitation and the flow of the program.

“Elliot, I have something to ask you” I start, “are you sure you have no one who might have done all this?” I ask him again. He did not answer me the last time.

“Eli, I don’t have anyone who I think would do this” he starts to say, “but it seems like they have been lurking and stalking us for some time”

I raise a brow, “And how are you able to conclude that?”

He shakes his head, “its just a hunch” he says
