The Ember In The Dark novel Chapter 6

Lunch ended without a hitch and I had a free period after. I headed to the library, curious about the selection here. I walked through the aisle trying to find something of interest, but I didn't see anything.

"I'm not sure you'll find anything here for you." His husky voice rang in my ear. "I guess you have a free period this hour too."

I turned to find those sweet chocolate eyes staring at me. I took a step back, trying to keep my distance. Mate bond or not, I'm not gonna let it overcome me. I just met him today, even if every cell in my body is screaming I need him.

"Well since you seem to think you know my style. What do you suggest?" I crossed my arms and arched my eyebrow at him. He just gave me this sexy crooked smile, his hands shoved deep in his pockets.

"Follow me." He whispered and my curiosity peaked too much not to follow.

He led me to the back of the library. A secluded spot from everyone else. Suddenly I questioned why I followed him. He walked to the corner and looked around before pulling a bookcase forward like a door. Oh my gosh a secret passage! I got giddy with excitement.

"Come on." He smiled at me and my heart fluttered.

I entered and he closed the way behind him. He checked his watch, before leading me down the dark corridor. Normally I wouldn't be able to see in the dark, but now that I have my wolf it seems that I can.

"F*ck, I forgot. I'm sorry. I'm going to grab your hand so I can guide you in the dark, okay?" He asked.

He still doesn't know I have my wolf, and I'm not sure I want to tell him. He took my silence as permission and took my hand in his. His hands were rough and calloused. I can tell he works hard by these hands.

The feeling of his skin touching mine, sent my cells bursting with pleasure. My heart was fluttering and the butterflies in my stomach were swarming around. I took a deep breath trying to calm myself, but it didn't help. All I ended up doing was taking a deep breath of his intoxicating scent.

We walked a short way down. I could tell we were going underground as it started to get cooler. We approached a room with dim lighting, and that's when Toni let go on my hand. I felt myself relax when he did. I felt like myself again, not like a crazy hormonal teen.

"Welcome to our hidden supernatural section. We have books here just for us. Go ahead and look around." He told me.

The room was round with tall bookshelves on every wall. The books ranged in age and in species. It wasn't as great as the library at home, but pretty impressive for where it was.

"This is nice." I told him as I continued looking at the books.
