The Proud Boss Lady. novel Chapter 55

Zed: Can you come pick me up at the airport?

Zed's text message rang over and over in her head as she drove to the airport. She couldn't describe how she was feeling at the moment. It was a mixed feeling. Her prayers had finally come to pass. All those nights where she cried herself to sleep had come to an end.

She finally admitted to the fact that she had fallen head over heels in love with her ex-driver.

What were people doing to say?

Well, I don't give a rats ass about what people fucking say,

She answered by parking her car.

Zed looked through the sea of people searching to find Soraya within the pool of people, but there were too many people around so he couldn't find her.

Where's she?

Soraya moved round in circles searching for Zed but she couldn't find him and the worst part of it was that his phone was off.

Maybe he went home.

He was tired of waiting. she thought to herself walking out clasping her hands over her head.

" Excuse me, " a lady tapped her shoulder.

" How may I help you? In fact, I can't I've been looking for someone for the past hour, I can't find him, maybe he left, just----

" If you could just turn around, you would find the person you're looking for," Zed said behind her.

She turned to see him standing with the woman who just tapped her.

" Thanks, Ma'am, '' Zed appreciated as the woman walked away shaking her head.

" Hey," he smiled at her, taking her hand into his. She smiled, bowing her head as they walked towards her car in silence. He loaded his bags into the trunk of the car and joined her in the car.

" You seem awfully quiet today," he prompted as she looked at him without a word. She backed out of the parking lot and drove away.

" Soraya?"

"Hmm," she absentmindedly answered him.

" What's on your mind?" he caressed her hand.

Nothing, she shook her head answering his question. He let go of her hand browsing on his phone. The drive home was so silent. No one spoke, just the radio and the sound of their sighs.

So much for making it up to her,

" Thanks for the ride, " he didn't look up from his phone as she opened the trunk for him to get his luggage.

" I'd see you around," he said to her standing beside the car.

" Zed I---

He walked away not prepared for what she had to say to him. She rubbed the forearms together lost in thought for a while before driving off.

Why did he ask me to pick him from the airport if he knew he wouldn't talk to me or listen to what I had to say in the first place? she thought to herself.

He dialled her number as it rang once..twice...thrice! and yet still no answer. He dialled it again as she parked her car to answer the call.

Why was he calling?

I literally left his house a couple of seconds ago.

" Can you come to my house, like right now, please?" he begged.

" But I---

" I know, but can you turn and come back," he said.

" Fine,"

" Thanks," he ended the call as she flayed her hands in the air in annoyance. She let out a high-pitched scream before reversing her car towards his house.

Thank goodness there were no passers-by.

In a few seconds, she had reached his house and decided to honk her horn loud enough to rile Zed up. He shook his head at her childishness and gestured for her to come inside the house. Soraya got out of her car and locked it before she headed inside.

" Can I offer you anything?" he inquired.

" Some red wine would do, thank you."

" Coming right up." he walked towards his bar and got an expensive bottle of red wine and two glasses. He set the glasses on the table, opened the bottle and poured both of them a glass.

" Thank you," she replied after he handed over her glass to her. Her eyes roamed his body undressing mentally. He had changed into black joggers and a grey men's tank top. He looked sexy!

" So..."

" So..."

" Why did you call me back? I thought you didn't want to see me any more." she twisted the ring on her finger.

" Because, I couldn't let you go," he confessed.

" I, I don't get it, you would----

" Wouldn't pick up your calls, nor return your messages or even speak to you on our way here. I did all that for you to feel how I felt when you did that to me. I wanted you to know how it felt to be treated that way like you didn't matter like you only existed when I needed a favour, just to raise your hopes and crush them,"

" Zed, I am so sorry. I realised my mistake and I am willing to make am--

" Too late Soraya, too late. I am sick and tired of being hurt all over again, I am tired. Maybe we should end this." he walked up to his room slamming the door shut.

No, no, no, no! There is no way I am losing him to another woman, I agree I messed up.

But I am willing to make things right no matter what it takes.

" Coming, just a minute!" Jackie said, rushing to open the door.

" Oh hi, " she greeted Ezra.

" Hey, Jackie, is your sister Jess in?" he asked, surprising her.

How was he able to tell them apart the first time he met her?

" Yeah, you must be Ezra right?"

" Yeah, I am." he smiled as she ushered him in.

" Quick question, how were you able to realize I wasn't Jess?" she inquired.

" First, you're taller and slimmer than her, your voice is different from hers and she doesn't greet me by saying, 'Oh hi." he chuckled at the end.

" Ah, I see. By the way, she is upstairs, let me get her for you." Jackie hurried up.

" Jess, your boo's here," she yelled loud enough for him to hear.

Such a character,

Trudy came out of her room to see who Jackie was talking about.

" Hi, are you Jess's boyfriend?" she smirked at the way he was uncomfortable.

" Yes, Mrs Velasquez."

" Ma," Jess whined.

" What, I was just asking...relax." she calmed her down.

" Mom, this is Ezra Montenero, Babe...my mom Trudy. She prefers that to Mrs Velasquez. She says the name makes her feel old." Jess added.

" It's nice to meet you, Trudy," he shook her hand.

" The pleasure's all mine,"

" I guess you met Jackie already?" Jess asked as her sister descended the staircase.

" Yes he did and he could instantly tell I wasn't his babe. He's a keeper sister, hold tight onto him." Jackie advised.

" Thanks, Jackie,"

" Ezra, son, would you care to join us for dinner?" Jess stared at him with a smile.

" I would love to Trudy," he agreed as they headed off to the table.

Jackie smiled at how happy her family looked. She found love, Jess found love, Freya found love as well and she was sure Zed also found love. She looked back from where they started from, and where they had gotten to in life, she was grateful.

" Jackie, are you okay?" her mom asked.

" I am perfect mom, I love you guys," she confessed as Freya entered the house with Noah.

" Are we missing something?" she raised a brow.

" Maybe we are," Mase responded behind her as Jackie ran to hug him.

This is the best day ever...

Soraya knocked on the door to Zed's room.

" Go away, Soraya Wayne! Just leave me be please," his voice broke at the end. She knocked again and again until he unlocked the door for her.

" Zed Velasquez, I am not going anywhere. Yes, I messed up, pushed you away, used you and treated you like trash, nobody. But I was scared aa to what people would say, what my parents would say. That a multimillionaire married her own driver,

" So you waited for me to get rich so people won't talk huh?" he cut her short.

" No, I realised that didn't matter. My younger brother and sister taught me to follow my dreams no matter what people would do or say. It's my life and not theirs. I messed up, and I am willing to make a change Zed. Please, I've fallen in love with you and trust me I've fallen hard." she confessed kneeling down with tears in her eyes.

He stood up from his bed and walked towards her. He helped her up and hugged her tight.

" I love you more, Soraya Wayne."
