Alpha Maximus:The last lycan novel Chapter 27

  Alpha Maximus

Alex and Bella sprint into our bathroom, hearing my screams and calls for help.

‘Bella! Get the doctor. Alex! Help me keep her in the water!’ I yell. Hope is thrashing around, trying to free herself from my grip. She’s hot to touch and the cold water isn't helping at all.

‘Stop the fire!’ She screams. ‘It burns!’ She yells.

‘What's wrong with her Alpha?’ Alex asks, concerned.

‘I don't know. I thought she had a fever, but the cold water isn't doing anything! I don't know what to do,’ I panic.

  ‘Kiss her!’ Alex says.

‘What?’ I ask, tilting my head.

‘When she was in her weird trance your kiss snapped her out of it,’ he explains.

I kiss her lips, and the moment I do, sparks fly through my body, and I know she feels them too. She stops thrashing around, and cups my face, not wanting us to part. Her tears drip onto my cheek. I hold her closer, and comfort her as much as I can, and we part. I caress her face, and she lies, exhausted, in my arms.

Alex turns the water off and brings some towels to cover her. He puts his hand on her forehead.

‘She isn't burning up anymore. The kiss worked,’ he says.

‘Now, we just have to figure out what’s going on,’ I say.

‘Here, hold her while I dry and redress myself,’ I say, handing Hope to Alex, drenched. Alex holds her in his arms and I go into my room.

I remove my wet clothes and dry myself off, putting black trousers, and a white, long-sleeved, cuffed shirt on. I call out for Alex to bring her into the room, lying dry towels on the bed.

‘Lie her down here and see where that doctor is,’ I order. Alex lies her on the bed and leaves the room. I remove her wet dress, dry her with the towels, then dress her in a fresh nighty. I put her in bed under the covers, sit by her side, and hold her hand, until the doctor arrives with Bella and Alex.

‘What took you so long?’ I snap at the doctor.

‘I'm so sorry, Alpha. I was caught up with other patients,’ he replies.

My fist slams into the bedside table as Chaos tries to take over.

‘I don't care if someone is dying, if I call you, you are to come immediately!’ I growl. I’m standing there facing them with black eyes; Chaos is fighting me to kill the doctor.

‘Chaos! That's enough!’ Alex growls. ‘Let Alpha Max in or we won't be able to help Hope,’ he warns.

After a moment of hesitation, Chaos retreats. My eyes return to their natural colour, and I exhale, relieved. I sit down on the bed.

‘Doctor, please do your check up before Chaos tries to take over again,’ I say. The doctor nods, approaches the bed, and checks all of Hope’s vital signs.

‘What's wrong with her?’ I ask.

‘That's the thing, Alpha. I can't find anything wrong. Everything seems to be fine,’ he says, confused. I look at Alex and Bella who shrug.

‘Thank you, doctor.’ I say, and he leaves. I look at Hope, and at her ruby heart she claims belongs to her parents.

‘Bella, stay here with her. I need to have an urgent meeting with Alex in my office,’ I mumble, leaving the room. Bella nods, and Alex follows me into the office, I take my seat and stare solemnly at the desk.

  ‘Are you okay?’ Alex asks.

‘No, I'm not okay, while Hope is like this. She said some things, some strange things, and I’m trying to figure it all out.’

  ‘What did she say?’

‘She thinks Alpha Cal is her grandfather,’ I say, annoyed.

‘Alpha Cal? As in Alpha Cal who killed your parents? The Alpha of the Dark Moon pack?’ He asks, shocked. I nod.

‘How? Why?’ Alex says, scratching his head, confused.

‘She is wearing a necklace I’ve never seen before. It's a heart shaped ruby. She said it belonged to her parents,’ I explain.

‘After she went missing in the castle, she had all these questions about the Dark Moon pack. She became very defensive when I explained that a witch was condemned to death for being in love with the Alpha of the Dark Moon pack… Shit—" I say, suddenly realising.

  ‘What is it?’ Alex asks.

‘It all makes sense now. If Alpha Cal is her grandfather, Alpha Levi is Hope’s—’

  ‘Father?’ Alex answers.

‘If Alpha Levi is her father, and he was in love and mated to the witch that my parents tried to protect, that means Hope is half—’ I gulp.

‘Witch?’ Alex says. We look at each other in shock, and my hands tremble.

‘Alpha... this means Hope is the first of her kind. It explains her healing ability. Hybrids are… illegal. She will be killed if anyone finds out!’ Alex whispers. ‘Technically your relationship with her, is against the law because she is part witch,’ Alex points out. I punch a hole in the wall.

‘Fuck!’ I yell, throwing items around the room in anger.

‘Fuck! This can't be happening! I’m mated to the granddaughter of my parent's killer, a hybrid who shouldn't exist!’ I yell.

‘What's going to happen now?’ Alex asks with dread.

‘I love her, Alex. I love her with all my heart. If anything ever happened to her, I could never live with myself. I don't care that she is a hybrid! She is my mate and I love her for her, and I accept her for her, just like she accepted me; a lycan everyone else fears and shuns. She didn't hesitate in loving me, when she saw my lycan. No matter what people think about her, I will protect her with my life! Hope is right. Why should someone be punished for loving someone else? It’s irrelevant who they are,’ I say, with my head in my hands.

‘Alpha, Hope is our Luna and your mate. That’s all that matters. This pack has fallen in love with Hope as our Luna. No one here will care if she is part witch; if anything it will just make us more protective of her,’ Alex says, proudly. I smile knowing the pack think so highly of her, and how accepting they are of her.

‘She wants me to take her to the Dark Moon pack and now I know why. Her father is still alive. My guess is, she wants to fight for his freedom. Her grandfather killed my parents and her mother. I think it's only fair we get her the justice she deserves for her mother's death. Which will avenge my parents’ deaths as well.’ Alex nods, in agreement.

‘I’ll get the pack warriors prepared for when Hope is well enough to pay her grandpa a visit,’ Alex says, smirking.

Peering down at the floor under my desk, I pick up a folded note and open it.

  Anna, my love,

They can try and keep us apart, but love will always conquer. You are my heart and I gift it to you now and forever.

  Eternally yours,

Alpha Levi of the Dark Moon Pack.

After reading it aloud, I read it over and over in my mind.

‘Is that a love letter between her parents?’ Alex asks, and I nod.

‘You are my heart, and I gift it to you now and forever,’ I read, and pause in thought for a moment. ‘Hope said the heart pendant was from her parents. Perhaps her father gifted it to her mother?’ I conclude.

‘That would make sense,’ Alex replies. ‘Tell the pack warriors to prepare to leave in the next couple of days,’ I order.

‘Yes, Alpha,’ Alex replies, bowing, and leaving the office.

Returning upstairs, I check on Hope, where Bella is still sitting by her side, with Billy sleeping in her arms.

‘You can go Bella; I'll take over from here,’ I mumble, Bella nods and leaves. Caressing Hope's face, I kiss her cheek.

‘I don't know if you can hear me babe, but I love you. No matter what. I just want you to always remember that,’ I whisper.

‘No matter what,’ she whispers back.
