Alpha's Blind Luna novel Chapter 57

A week after the death of Alpha Niles, Vale and I welcomed Alpha Evan and his Luna Naomi, with their pup. We had already taken care of the vampires and it turns out, there were only a few that were holed up in a building just outside of the pack territory. Vale already had passed on the title of Alpha, introducing the whole pack to their new Alpha. I had never seen so much elation. Suddenly, the pack turned back into a place they could call home.

We were still here though, trying to sort out the ridiculous amount of issues that the previous Alpha and Beta left behind. There wasn’t much I could help with so I started up on a new routine for the warriors so they would be better off then the ridiculous routine they had previously. I also took over the scheduling for the patrols in the area.

From what I understood, the two High Council members were also stuck at the witches coven, trying to sort out some other issues there. I had stopped by a couple times to see the kids and they seemed very happy to see me every time, even if the rest of the coven was wary of a werewolf in their mix. Lately, it seemed far busier. It was nearing on a month since the handover.

We were in the middle of a meeting with Alpha Evan and Luna Naomi when my phone vibrated. Looking down, my brow furrowed. I nodded to Vale and stood up, heading out of the room. Putting the phone to my ear, I answered it.

“Danger, it’s been a while.”

He was quiet for a moment. “We found Ezekiel.”

My body froze and my eyes widened. Heart pounding in my chest, I walked further down the hall. “What? How…when…where?”

There was a long pause. “Pipsqueak tracked down one of the facilities in Russia. I drove with Auri and Jax. We…we went in with no real plan. Auri refused to wait.”

I swallowed. “Did you get him?”

Simon’s long pauses were bothering me. “Yes. He’s back at the pack house. I don’t know if you remember how Auri was when she came back from them, but he…he was on his way there.” Taking a deep breath, he continued. “Morgan is helping him. He said he helped Auri in the beginning and so he knows how to treat Ezekiel. He’s…struggling but he can talk. Currently, he’s very skittish and doesn’t like to be touch. But Morgan says it will pass. He also suffers from bad nightmares.”

My lips pursed in a thin line. I remembered the nightmarish screams of Auri when she was on Nova. It was something you never forget. “But he’s…?”

“In one piece. Vale will need to be careful for a while. Take it slow with him. But Morgan says he will be right as rain in the next few months.”

I sighed, leaning against the wall. “Thank the goddess. How is Auri?”

This time the silence stretched out further. Simon didn’t say anything and my hand started to shake.

“Simon?” My voice cracked.

“I…she…we…” He struggled and I heard the pain in his voice.

I slid down to the floor, my head burying in my knees. “Tell me she is okay Simon. Please. Tell me she is okay.”

“I…I can’t…Hector. I’m sorry.”

Choking out a silent sob, I shook as Rydere howled in the back of my mind. “You were supposed to protect her…” I wanted to sound mad but I couldn’t even muster it. It came out more like a whisper, a plea.

“I know. I know and I…” He couldn’t finish.

Finally, the silent crying wasn’t enough and I sobbed into my arm. I couldn’t care less if someone walked by seeing a grown ass wolf on the floor sobbing. Auri had been through too much already. She didn’t need anything else.

“What…?” I couldn’t even finished my sentence.

“We can go into the details when you’re back. I don’t…we…need time…Jax too. He’s…we’re struggling.”

Leaning my head back against the wall, I closed my eyes. “We will be home soon.”

“Good. We need you.”

Taking a haggard breath, I hung up the phone and covered my eyes with my arm. Tears streamed down the sides of my face. We were too old for this. We were supposed to retire. Live out our dreams in the Italian countryside. Not this. Never this.

We can’t lose her, Hector. We can’t… Rydere didn’t finished as he howled in the back of my mind. He retreated further and further away. I couldn’t stop him. Taking a deep breath, I stood up. Walking back into the meeting room, all the men looked at me, various looks of confusion.

“Alpha King, may I speak to you…privately?”

Vale stood up and nodded. “I’ll be right back.”

Pulling back, I didn’t meet anyones eyes as I still had tears leaking out. Opening the door and heading out, Vale shut the door behind him. We walked to his new bedroom. It was five times larger than the old one with a desk, couch, king size bed, and dresser.

“Hector, what’s…”

I cut him off. “They found Ezekiel.”

Vale froze. “Is he…is he okay? What did they…is he…?”

“He is back at the pack house. Simon says, he will need to be treated with kid gloves for a few months. Apparently, whatever they did to him has really messed him up. So he will need to be handled lightly. Morgan is helping, since he helped with Auri before.”

Vale nodded, a true smile gracing his face. “Goddess, thank you. We can wrap this shit up and go home.”

I nodded.

“Why…don’t you look happy?” His voice was accusatory and I balled up my fists.

“Do you not care how they got him?”

Vale chuckled hollowly. “Honestly, no…I don’t. My mate is home. He is safe. I don’t care what methods it took to save him. I would go to the ends of the earth for him and I expect nothing less from everyone else.”

Rydere roared and came forward, trying to lash out at Vale; angry and hurt. I gripped the bedpost, holding Rydere back. Vale looked slightly shocked at my lack of control and I turned, pulling open the door.

“That is all I wanted to tell you. Excuse me, your majesty.” I managed to growl the words out before slamming the door behind me and taking off.

'We should have ripped his head off for that!' Rydere yelled at me.
