Always Been Yours (Tessa and Nicholas) novel Chapter 503

Chapter 503

As Remus spoke, he looked at Sonia and Hayley meaningfully.

When Hayley and Sonia saw this, they suddenly felt a little guilty, especially Sonia, as she felt an indescribable forbidding aura was coming after her. However, her being the Stone Family's madam for so many years had resulted in her having complete control over her facial expressions; therefore, she didn't give herself away that easily.

Similarly, Hayley also sensed the pressure circulating in the air. Although she was a little fearful, she quickly composed herself.

"Old Master Sawyer, you don't need to thank us. Caring for the elderly is our duty."

She responded obediently as always, slipping into the virtuous and sensible persona she had created to get on Remus’ good side.

Remus stared straight at Hayley when he heard those words.

When she saw this, she merely gave him a faint smile while he was observing her.

However, it was a pity that she forgot about one thing. No matter how good a person disguised their expression, the eyes were the windows of one's soul.

The moment he saw the mother-daughter duo and their slightly averted gazes, he knew then that what Nicholas had told him yesterday was true.

For a moment, disappointment filled his heart.

I never expected that the girl I favored would backstab me like this.

Despite being disappointed, Remus did not show it outwardly.

Then, he retracted his gaze from Hayley and said cooly, "I thank you for your concern. I’ll be discharged from the hospital in a few days. You don't have to make time just to pay me a visit unless there's something urgent."

Hayley frowned when she heard those words, and she couldn't help feeling that there was a hidden meaning behind them.

Before she could think deeply about it, Nero's voice rang in her ears.

Meanwhile, Nero did not realize that something was amiss and had not caught on to the double meaning of Remus' words.

All he could think about was the marriage tying the two families together. I'm sure that since Old Master Sawyer’s condition has made a turn for the better, the wedding will proceed as agreed upon, right?

"Old Master Sawyer, now that you're feeling well, should we begin arranging the engagement affairs between Hayley and Nicholas?"

When Remus heard this, he almost let out a mirthless laugh at the Stone Family's shamelessness.

If it weren't for my old friend, Maxwell, I wouldn't even want to waste a single second on these people.

Finally, he said perfunctorily, "I've just recovered from my illness, and I don't have that energy to deal with these things. So, let's talk about it when I've fully recovered."

As he listened to Remus' refusal, only then did he notice Remus' attitude change. When Nero finally made a connection between his words earlier and his sudden shift in attitude, Nero couldn't help but feel wrong-footed.

However, he did not dare to show it outwardly.

"It's true. You should take care of your body first. I was wrong to push for this right now." He placated Remus with a smile.

Unfortunately, Remus only nodded indifferently to Nero’s words. Then, as he felt that he was no longer in the mood to entertain them further, he showed them the door. "I'm a little tired. I'll see you when I see you, do have a safe trip home. Ian, send them off."

"Yes." When Ian received his orders, he immediately stepped forward and gestured to the Stone Family to take their leave.

Therefore, the Stone Family had no choice but to bid Remus farewell.

After they walked out of the ward, Sonia couldn't help but ask anxiously, "Hubby, what does Old Master Sawyer mean? Is he rethinking his choice to arrange a marriage alliance between our families?"

"Be quiet!" Nero scolded lightly.

Then, she saw him carefully glancing at the ward. Once he found that the door was already closed behind them, he gave her a warning look and strode away.

She also knew that she had misspoken earlier. Hence, she silently followed behind him as they left the hospital.
