Loveless Marriage novel Chapter 172

Experiencer and wiser, Mallory words caught the point, showing obviously biased to the Perez's.

The eyes of both Megan and Lexie lit up as they stared straight at Christian.

Christian's clear eyes looked calm and emotionless. Without any hesitation, he said, "Being my secretary is too tiring. It's okay for a man. But she is a girl. At this age, she should find a boyfriend to date. Staying by my side all day may ruin her reputation."

Pausing for a moment, he looked up at Megan with a smile and said, "Mrs. Perez, I am only doing this for her sake. She does not lack money. And she can make more friends if so."

"This..." Megan immediately choked.

These words directly interrupted their unspoken thoughts, telling everyone that he was completely not interested in Lexie.

Megan's expression became more awkward. She slightly turned her gaze towards her daughter, whose face was extremely pale even with make-up.

She thought for a moment and then exchanged glances with Mallory, who nodded at her soothingly.

Lexie bit her lips, looked at him with a sad expression, saying: "Christian, I... "

Mallory suddenly turned her eyes towards her, giving her a hint of being quiet. Then, with a straight face, she leisurely said, "Since you are thinking about marriage for your employees, why aren't you thinking about yourself? Look at them, younger than you, but their children are 4 or 5 years old already."

Naturally, they were referring to Lexie's two cousins.

However, because they were too lazy and idle, they were forced to get married early, so as to avoid their reputation being ruined and no girl being willing to marry them.

The two cousins immediately put down their phones, raised their heads and giggled in agreement, "That's right, Mr. Miller, your career has already succeeded, and it’s time to think about getting married and having children. Otherwise, who will help you manage such a large foundation?"

Megan's expression changed and she anxiously glared at him coldly.

How could they mention company management at this point? Even a fool could hear what they were thinking. She regretted to have brought they here so much.

Luckily, her daughter was as smart as her.

She immediately interrupted, "Christian, let bygones be bygones. There are many good girls in this world, and with your condition, you will find a better one."

She was reminding him to forget about his previous marriage and look forward.

Christian sat there quietly, then as if he had thought of something, a tinge of gentleness flashed across his eyes. "You're right, whether it's good or bad, it will come to clear after a period of being-with." He said.

Mallory's gaze turned deep as she glanced at them and coldly said coldly: "You’d better also understand what a 'lesson' means. Don't be so forgetful and fall at the same place twice."

Christian, "..."

Christian felt that Mallory was going to argue with him to the end tonight. Feeling helpless, he stopping arguing.

The waiters served the dishes one after another.

Carl stood up and raised his glass as he said, "Christian, this glass is my compensation for Lexie. I didn't teach her well. You have to drink it up, or else I'll definitely think you're angry."

Christian also stood up, his calm temperament revealed a hint of coldness, his smile was light and gentle, and he clinked his wine cup with him, "You're being too courteous, Mr. Perez. You know my personality, if the person can correct his mistake immediately, I wouldn't blame them anymore."

After he finished his words, he calmly raised his head and drank the wine in his glass.

From the moment he entered the door, she had been worrying that he would be angry, or that he would embarrass them, but his current attitude was completely out of her expectations. It was calm, lazy, and at ease.

No one could see through his thoughts.

Lexie even didn't know whether to rejoice or feel upset.

Suddenly, she poured herself a glass of wine and stood up with a smile. "Christian, it's not my dad's fault. I was too wilful, and I have to apologise."

After that, she drank up a whole a glass of wine. Her slender, white, swan neck drew a beautiful arc, and a few drops of bright red liquid flowed down the corner of her mouth, adding a trace of depraved charm.

After a few seconds, the wine glass was empty.

Megan was shocked, she hurriedly walked over and wiped her mouth, "How can you drink so much at once? Christian wouldn't blame you if you just drink a bit."

But Christian only gave an indifferent glance, not showing any superfluous expressions.

Mallory glared at him in dissatisfaction, "Go and comfort her! How can you bully a girl like this? "

"Mom, you don't have to worry. She has been working by my side for so many years. It's not a big deal."

Lexie's face stiffened.

His words just indicated that she was being pretentious.

She embarrassedly pushed away Megan's hand and said, "Mom, don't treat me like a child. I usually have to drink a lot at social gatherings, so it's okay."

Megan glanced at Christian and said sinisterly: "You are a girl. If you want a job, you can go to your dad's company at any time. You just have to go out and suffer."

Anyone could understand the meaning behind her words.

Hearing this, Lexie subconsciously looked at Christian's expression, frowning: "Mom, what are you talking about? I wanna be an independent girl. If I work in my dad's company, everyone will treat my as the boss's daughter, and there wouldn't be an equal coworker relationship then."

Mallory revealed an appreciative smile, "That's right, I agree with you, Lexie. A wise person has his own opinions. The man who marries you would be so lucky."

Hearing this, Christian calmly glanced at his mother.

Compared to Lexie, Isabella was way much wiser and more sensible than her. Even before Tristan was caught in jail, she didn't seem to be satisfied with Isabella. So what she wanted was actually not some good daughter-in-law, but good relatives by marriage.

When Megan heard this, her dignified face regained its happiness and a bit of pride, "She is just like me. She always follows her own heart to do things. Although it may not be good, the result was not bad always."

With that, she bent down and took some food for Mallory, "Mrs. Miller, have some more."
