My Brother's Best Friend Is My Mate novel Chapter 51

Yes my child." Came an answer.

My bestfriend opened the door to the room and I stepped after her and closed the door behind me.

"What have I done to receive a visit from the beautiful Spencer?" Daciana asked which made Spencer laugh. I was busy looking around the room, soaking up the presence that lingered in every dark corner. It isn't everyday you get to meet a real life witch. Although I kind of expected her to live in a cottage, and look old and wrinkled. Elder Daciana didn't even look nearly as old as the witches in the fairytales. She wore a knee length floral printed dress and her snow white hair was done up in a perfectly neat bun. In her hand was a small piece of material and In front her was a medium sized sewing kit so I assumed she was working on the costumes Annalise told us about.

The room was only slightly dark, and has potentially visual aesthetic that emerged in the late 2000s or early 2010s. Curtains blocked out sunlight and endless boxes packed up the limited space of the room.

"I wanted to introduce you to my friend, Emerald." Spencer said and I jumped out of my thoughts. We sat down on a loveseat in Daciana's room and she sat a few centimeters away from us.

"Emerald." Daciana said my name as if she was testing it out on her tongue and in her brain. The fact scared me. What if she didn't like me? Would she turn me into a frog?

"I know your parents from the Midnight pack, very good people. Tell me, how's your mother?"

"She's doing fine actually, and so is my dad." I answer.

"Ah. Spencer, would you mind leaving the room for a bit?" Daciana asked, which made my stomach turn. Spencer nodded and left the room after stealing a quick glance at me. I heard the door shut and it felt like someone stabbed me in my stomach.

"Come closer child." Daciana ordered. I obliged and got up to occupy a seat that was directly infront of her. My heart pounded in my ears and it felt like it was trying to escape my rib cage.

"Are you afraid, Emerald?" The elderly woman asked.

"It's almost as if you can read minds, I'm shaking." I tell her.

Daciana chuckled. "You're just like your mother, Emerald. Brutally honest and always straight forward. Know what you want."

"Do I though? I don't know, I'm just so confused about everything." I confided in her. Telling people my fears and hopes and desires have always been something I have trouble doing. I just don't like giving people the ammunition they'll need if they decide to hurt me or make me an enemy. Ammunition like myself. After all, our strongest enemy is ourselves.

"What are you confused about, Emerald?" Without waiting for me to answer, Elder Daciana takes my hands in hers and closes her eyes. I follow suit and close my eyes as well. Before I know it I'm thrown in a dark room with glowing light swirling around like a whirlpool.
