Mysterious Mr.Richard novel Chapter 20

It had been raining for a week. The monsoon season made people gloomy. Everything was seemingly wet and moldy.

But the president's office of Zellweger Group was filled with an aroma of coffee.

Richard just finished a meeting. He signed a document and handed it to Ted. "Get this to the financial department to recheck it. If there's no problem, tell the law department to contact the clients."

"Yes, sir."

"About Mr. Stewart's project, lower 3% of their price. If they refuse this, tell them that Greatsky Group is offering a better price to us."

"Yes, sir. If everything goes well, we'll definitely get Mr. Stewart's project. The sales department has been working on the contract."

"Hum." Richard nodded. He picked up his coffee and took a sip.

"By the way, Mr. Zellweger, Miss Evelina sends you an invitation."

Ted fished out the invitation card from a pile of documents and placed it on the desk. He continued, "This Saturday is her birthday. The Yonng family will hold a birthday party at the Sea cloud Hotel."

"Evelina whom?"

" The lead actress in the film our company just invested. You've met her at one dinner."

Yes, Richard knew Evelina. Evelina was the lead actress of the movie as well as the sister of Pearl.

"I know you're not interested in this party. So I'll prepare a gift for you to her and tell her that you're busy..."

Richard narrowed his eyes at the card. He parted his lips slightly, "No, I have time on Saturday."

Ted was surprised. After few moments, he snapped back to his senses and replied, "Yes, sir, I'll let them know."

Richard did not touch the card. Instead, he got the report of the two children. Ted had prepared it a few days ago.

Richard flipped to the first page. It was the children's date of birth.

It happened to be seven years ago, when Pearl just broke up with him and called off the engagement.

Could he be their father?

Richard's face turned dark.

On Saturday, it was sunny and cloudless.

Pearl followed the address on the invitation and  she arrived early.

When she received the invitation from Evelina, she thought that it must be a mistake. However, it was her phone number and name. So this was for her.

It occurred to Pearl that Evelina might be planning something.

However, the party was Pearl's only chance to meet her father. So she needed attend.

"Pearl?" As soon as she entered, she watched Evelina waving at her, "Over here."

Pearl's heart skipped a beat as she also spotted the familiar figure behind Evelina. She was so nervous that she almost forgot how to walk.

It had been seven years and her father aged. His back was a little hunched now. His had grey hair now which she could see from such a distance.

When her father Anthony saw her, his smile vanished.

"Dad." Pearl walked near to him, but she dared not to be nearer.

She felt very guilty and ashamed of herself.

"Pearl?" A relative next to Anthony recognized Pearl. "Yes, you are Pearl. I saw her walking in. But I could barely recognize her."

"Yeah, I haven't seen her for years either. Uncle Anthony said that she went abroad to study. Until now, it's been seven years." Another relative added into the talk.

Then all the other relatives began gossiping. However, they didn't notice that there was an awkward atmosphere between Anthony and Pearl.

Evelina was standing in the crowd. She said with a smile, "Aunt Farrah, now my sister is a chief surgeon. She's very influential in our city. You could ask around about it."

Pearl watched at Evelina in shock. She didn't expected that Evelina should have spoken up for her.
