Mysterious Mr.Richard novel Chapter 44

Pearl covered her face and looked at Evelina in disbelief. She couldn't believe that this slap came from the sister who grew up with her.

"What's wrong?" The director's voice came from behind the camera. "Why don't you say your lines?"

"Soeey. I forgot. Let's do it again." Evelina replied.

"Okay, everyone, please be ready. Let's take a break and do it again."

The other actors were used to it. They went back to their position with a numb face. Only Pearl was left sitting on the ground.

Evelina's assistant helped her stand up. Evelina moved her wrists and looked down at Pearl. "Sorry I didn't see you. I hit the wrong person."  

There was no sign of an apology.

Against the wall, Pearl stand up, and her face looked terrible. She stared at Evelina's back and calmed down. As others gossiped behind her back, she clenched her fists.    

She didn't know when the conflict started with Evelina. When they were on set, Evelina always made things difficult for her. Pearl thought Evelina's immature behavior was really childish. So she didn't care about it.

But now, Evelina just slapped her, which made Pearl realized that Evelina was not throwing a tantrum. In fact, Evelina hated her.

Soon the props were ready. Everyone was waiting for Evelina to get another take.

This time, Evelina was to slap Pearl again, but Pearl stopped her hand without hesitation.

"Stop, stop..."

the Director, Mr. Blake stood up unhappily, "What's going on? Why would a temporary actor do that? Whose hand is that?"

"Who else could it be? It's Dr. Yonng, our medical expert. She thinks she's the heroine." Evelina immediately shook off Pearl's hand and told Mr. Blake.    

"I quit." Pearl stood up directly with a straight back and a calm face. "I'm here as a medical expert, I have no obligation to act in the drama, let alone be humiliated by the actress."  

She did the second time to check if Evelina slapped her intentionally. She knew it already and there was no need to continue.  

After that, she ignored everyone and strode past the 'patient' on the ground. Then she left the set in a grim mood.  

Suddenly, the air became awkward on set. Evelina walked to Mr. Blake and looked towards Pearl's back. She said, "See. She has a really bad temper. I told you to get a replacement. Since there are a lot of doctors, why does it have to be her?"   

"Alright, stop staring. Let's have lunch first." Mr. Blake frowned and glanced around.  

Everyone was relieved after hearing that. People started to eat, and the crowd dispersed.

However, Evelina was unwilling to let it go. She tugged at Mr. Blake and urged, "Mr. Blake, let's find another doctor. I have friends who work in the hospital. I'll find another one."   

"You shouldn't go too far, Evelina." Mr. Blake was serious, and he even sounded a little angry. He added, "I remind you that you can't afford to offend the person behind Dr. Yonng. If she's unhappy about it, you will be the one who's going to lose your job."      

Evelina's face stiffened, "What do you mean? Who is behind her?" She asked hurriedly.

Who was behind her? Richard?

Just thinking, she heard someone calling out Pearl's name.  

The man's voice was lovely. "Is she not here?" 

Evelina looked up and saw a figure in a white coat talking to a crew member. He was over six feet tall, and he was remarkable. Even his pretty face was on par with the male lead's too.

"Is he one of the actors? I've never seen him." Evelina asked her assistant.

Josie, the assistant, took a look and shook her head. She said, "No, I think that's a doctor from Jackson Hospital. I saw him yesterday, and he seems to know Dr. Yonng."

"He knows Pearl?" Evelina's eyes bacame dark.

At the same time, Pearl just came out from the set. The sun was blazing, and there was no wind, so she found shade under a tree. She didn't know if it was the weather or if the slap from Evelina was too hard , but her face was still aching.   

Bored for a while, her stomach rumbled.   

Pearl touched her stomach. Although no one heard it, she still felt a little awkward.

She started to regret that she just stomped out from the set.  

She didn't work in Jackson Hospital, and she did not even have a friend. After she left the set, she couldn't expect someone to persuade her to go back, but she hasn't had lunch yet.

It was too remote to find a place to eat.

"Pearl." A familiar male voice pulled back her thoughts. She looked up and seemed to have found her savior. Her eyes lit up,  "Alex."   

"Why are you here?" Alex strode forward. The hem of his white coat were fluttering in the wind, and he smiled, "I've been looking for you. I wanted to ask you out for lunch."  

Pearl suppressed her joy and pretended to be calm. She said, "Alex, I know why they call doctors angels now."

Alex was stunned. "Why?"

Pearl waved her hand and urged. "It doesn't matter. Let's go to eat. Where are we going?"

The cafeteria of Jackson Hospital was behind the outpatient  building. It was a private, only for the hospital staff. The crew team pleaded to use the cafeteria, but the hospital refused, because they did not want the crew team to interrupt the hospital staff. The management was stricter than before. Only hospital staff showed their ID to enter the cafeteria.       

Pearl got benifit because of Alex. Even if it was very late in the afternoon, the lady working in the cafeteria kept a portion of chicken chop for him.     

"Eat more." He gave his chicken chop to Pearl.

 "Thank you." Pearl said.

When she was eating, she could not help but ask, "Alex, why are the cafeteria staff so nice to you, no matter where you go?"

When they were in college, the lady in the college cafeteria always gave them less food, and they would be lucky to get a portion of the food. However, Alex was an exception. The lady loved him, and he would always get a lot of food.   

Alex smiled warmly and said, "Maybethe lady wanted me to eat more, because I'm too skinny."

"No, she just thought you were hansome. She always favored good-looking guys, so I always asked Ri..."

The name stuck in her throat. Pearl's voice stopped suddenly, and she lost her appetite.
