Reclaiming the CEO's Heart novel Chapter 144

Chapter 144 Nurturing Care and Unexpected Gifts

Avery had no idea what he was up to, but she picked up the lamp nevertheless. The faint light of the lamp swayed left and right with Frank's footsteps, illuminating her surroundings.

He took her to the kitchen, tied an apron around his waist, and quickly prepared the ingredients. He mixed the rice with eggs, peas, and bacon.

The man towered above her, with only the dim light from the lamp to guide him as he expertly chopped vegetables and stirred-fried the dish.

Flames leaped up from the bottom of the pan, licking at its surface and casting a dancing light onto Frank's metallic mask.

Avery was reminded of Jacob, who would make her a bowl of spaghetti or a plate of fried rice whenever she was hungry, no matter how late at night it was.

In no time, the fragrant rice was served in front of her, and Frank added some vegetables to decorate the plate.

"Dig in. No matter how long you can survive, I hope it's longer than you think."

Tears welled up in Avery's eyes as she lowered her head to eat.

The stranger's care felt like a giant blue whale, opening its huge mouth to engulf her and making her temporarily forget the betrayal that she had experienced.

Frank's knobby fingers gently rubbed her head. "Even if there is only one day left, live well."

"Yeah."

The following days were simple yet happy. Avery accepted Frank's assignment to gather the children on the island and teach them how to read.

Ethan was always nearby, pulling the tail of a kitten, waiting patiently for her class to finish so he could follow her around.

"Mommy, pick me up," he said as he opened his arms with a smile.

At first, Avery corrected him and asked him to call her "Auntie". But as time went on, she got used to it.

"Honey, let me check on you. Did you fall again? Your face is dirty."

Avery gently cleaned his face. Ethan giggled and kissed her cheek.
