Chapter 191 She Didn't Care

Avery was somewhat surprised. She hadn't expected him to come and pick her up.

Although she had entrusted everything to Frank, Avery still felt a bit nervous when she got into the car. She always felt like Jacob could see right through her with a glance.

As soon as she got in the car, he asked out of the blue.

"Did you have fun?"

"It was alright, a bit scary. Carl was so frightened that he whimpered."

When she said this, her expression was still calm. Jacob blandly withdrew his gaze from her.

He had deliberately arranged for Avery to spend time with these children, hoping she would become as cheerful as she used to be.

But the reality proved that not only their feelings for each other couldn't be returned, but also Avery herself.

In the past, when the two of them sat together, she would hold his arm and chatter non-stop, her mouth hardly ever resting.

Unlike now, she sat upright, her fingers gripping the armrest, her eyes looking out the window.

She only answered his questions. When she didn't speak, it was as if a huge gap was separating them.

The silence was suffocating, and neither of them spoke along the way.

Avery could feel Jacob's gaze on her. She was getting cold feet, wondering if he had discovered that she had sneaked out.

After all, he had just sternly warned her last night that developing the island and ensuring living conditions were fine.

He had one condition, which was that she must never see Frank again.

She had readily agreed but broke her promise the next day. She had no idea what Jacob was thinking.

He remained silent, and his gaze on Avery felt like torture.

They arrived at the Hill Mansion and he didn't make things difficult for her, so Avery finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Jacob spoke coldly, "I won't be home for dinner tonight."
