Chapter 122
The girlfriend tumed out to be Lana Larissa wandered how she forgot that October 23rd was Lana’s birthday.
As she recalled the past, she clenched her handbag so lightly that she began trembling. Before she left the Seymours, she had spent every October 23rd hiding under the covers ef her blanket in her room. She relused to watch the joyful occasion happening outside her room or listen to the laughter that echoed outsice. They were nothing but a reminder of how unwelcome she was in that family.
As old memories and negative emotions arose, her breathing turned shallow. Despite the warm temperature of the venue, she began to shiver.
Just then, Lucas cleared his throat in the microphone, which silenced the audience immediately. The abrupt silence brought Larissa back to her senses. She got to her feet, deciding to slip away quietly before Lana noticed her. However, before she went far, she ran into someone. A laint familiar, manly scent lilled her nostrils.
She froze in her tracks, Raising her gaze, her eyes met Kevan’s gleaming ones in the darkness
Holding her hand, he asked, “Where are you going?”
His voice was ceep, to begin with. Since he deliberately lowered it, it was even more secuctive and alluring. Strangely, it camed her down. Suddenly, Larissa had an urge to hold him, to draw warmth from him.
She extended her arm toward him, but her senses were restored at the last second, causing her to withdraw her hand.
Larissa forced herself to smile at him.
“Well I just remembered that I need to leave.”
“It’s not good to leave at the start of an event, isn’t it?” Kevan noticed that something was off, and he knew why.
He didn’t let her go. Instead, he held her hard and walked her back to her seat holding her shoulder to make sure she sat down. Then, he took the seat next to her, which belonged to him,
“At least wait until the cake is cut he insisted, brushing his lips against her ear. His hot breath caused her to blush and the chill she had been expenencing moments ago vanished.
Larissa’s mind went blank-Lana, past birthdays, and bad memories suddenly faded. In their place, there was only Kevan occupying her thoughts.
A commotion Jarred her from losing hersell to the rhythm of her thundering heartbeat, and Larissa and Kevan tumed to look at the stage.
At some point, a cake in the form of a castle had been placed beside Lucas and Lana. There was a crown-shaped candle on the cake, and its tickering flame added a touch of enchantment to the scene.
When the plans began playing “Happy Birthday,” Lucas motioned for the crowd to stop, and the cheering died. Holding Lana’s hand, he looked at her affectionately.
“Today marks the third birthday I’ve celebrated with my little princess.”
The cheesy nickname “ittle princess” sent goosebumps all over Larissa. However, when she thought about she found it quite litting for Lana. After all, Lana had always been the “tle princess” doted on by all the Seymours, and like a princess, she lived in luxury ever since she was born.
