The Charming Ex-Wife (Lysander and Josiah) novel Chapter 10

The Charming Ex-Wife

Chapter 10 Can We Go Back To The Way We Were?

Daphne was shocked. “What?”

“It’s only been four weeks since I found out.”

Daphne remained silent.

Lysander gently placed her hand on her abdomen. “I was planning to tell him about it on his birthday as a birthday gift for him. Now, it seems like it might not be good news for him.”

Feeling somewhat sympathetic, Daphne advised her, Actually, it’s not necessarily bad. Lysanne is pregnant, too. Even if Josiah likes her, he might not want to be a stepfather. After all these years of treating you well, he might have already given up and just wanted to live happily with you. It’s just that Lysanne’s return triggered memories from their youth, causing some emotional turmoil. Once Lysanne leaves, you two might be able to return to how things were before.”

“Can we really go back to how things were?”

Daphne fell silent.

Over twenty years of unrequited love. It’s like an iceberg, only showing a tiny bit above the surface, but beneath it lay tumultuous emotions known only to myself.

In the end, Daphne said, “Let’s give him another chance for the sake of the child. If he still chooses Lysanne, then I’ll accompany you to get rid of the baby.”

The next day, Lysander had the early shift.

Josiah wasn’t there, so she took a taxi to the hospital herself.

Mornings for doctors were always busy with rounds and giving instructions based on the condition of the pregnant women. After briefing Lynn on the special cases and nursing requirements of several patients, she finally had time to return to her office for a drink of water.

As she pushed the door open, she heard her phone vibrating.

It was Josiah.

She answered, “Hello?”

Josiah sounded apologetic. “Lysander, are you at the hospital?”

“I’ve finished my rounds.”

“Sorry, I wanted to rush back this morning to take you to work, but something came up.”

Lysander chuckled and deliberately asked, “What held you up?”

Josiah stayed silent.

“It is about the company?”

“Yeah.” Josiah hurriedly added, “You should finish your early shift at five, right? I’ll come pick you up, and we’ll go home together.”

Returning to their old house was just to celebrate Josiah’s birthday with his mother. Tonight, they would до back to their own apartment in the city center.

Lysander said, “I might not finish by five; there’s a lot to do today.”

“It’s okay. I’ll wait for you, no matter how late.”

“Don’t you have a lot of work? Can you leave by five?”

“I pretty much finished everything last night.”

“Oh, okay.” Lysander asked, “So, you won’t be called away in the middle of the night anymore?”

Josiah’s voice grew solemn. “No, I won’t.”

Obstetrics and gynecology was like that-sometimes there were too many tasks for the staff, other times it was idle all day.

Today wasn’t her consultation day, and the pregnant women in the ward were all doing well; there was nothing extra to worry about. As soon as five o’clock came, she could leave work.

Lynn winked suggestively at her. “Dr. Thotne, your husband has been waiting for you at the door for a long time.”

Lysander felt warmth in her heart. “How long has he been here?”

“About half an hour,” Lynn said. “T’ll let you in on a secret; there’s a surprise waiting for you.”

Lysander was intrigued. “A surprise?”

“Haha, you’ve been married for three years. Your husband still has such a romantic touch; it’s really admirable.”

The nurse beside them also looked envious. “Dr. Thorne, you must have saved the galaxy in your past life to deserve such a good husband in this life.”

Lynn nodded, like setting a timer. “Exactly. If there were men like him, who would fear marriage? I’d get married and have children right away; arrange three kids in a row.”

Lysander couldn’t help but feel curious and quickened her pace out of the hospital lobby.

Josiah stood in the most conspicuous spot. He wore a blue and white striped shirt today, paired with navy blue trousers. He still had a matching sleeve garter on his bicep.

He liked armbands, but they didn’t always look good on everyone. Too thin, and it would slip off easily; too chubby, and the whole arm looked like a sausage. It had to be someone like Josiah, broad- shouldered, well-built, with muscular arms, to make the armband look good. Paired with his gold- rimmed glasses, he exuded elegance and nobility.

The bustling entrance of the hospital attracted many onlookers.

Finally, Lysander understood what Iynn meant by “surprise.”

She even tried to recall. What day is it today?

My birthday is still half a year away, and our anniversary is three months away. What is it, then?

The day we first met?

That isn’t right: we met on the day of our blind date. I was busy with work then, so we chose the Independence Day holiday for the date.

However, Independence Day is still some time away.

Perhaps, as Daphne said, he is just stirred by Lysanne’s sudden return. When reason returns, we can still live happily together.

She smiled slightly and walked quickly towards him.

Josiah noticed her approach, a smile playing on his lips. “You’ve worked hard. This is for the great Dr. Thorne.”

The bouquet was too large, and Lysander struggled to hold it. “Thank you.”
