Howard opened his mouth but didn’t utter a single word after a moment of hesitation.

Lysander sighed helplessly. “Didn’t you say this matter had nothing to do with Josiah?”

“It’s not really like that…” Howard stammered.

Lysander shook her head in resignation. fh, never mind. The situation was critical back then, and we indeed saved Old Mrs. Everhart’s life. Mr. Thorne probably kept this from me because he didn’t want me to feel awkward considering my recent breakup with Josiah. His intention was good.

Michelle’s voice was noticeably hushed, and she whispered sneakily “Um… the woman who was in charge. of the demolition came by again just now, pressuring us for a response. Mom and Dad didn’t want me to tell you, but I called you secretly.”

“I overheard them talking in their room. It seemed like Mom was planning to make a trip back to her hometown, apparently to borrow some money from her cousin. Dad was busy sending messages to his friends, presumably also trying to borrow money.”

Daphne sounded relaxed. “Grandma’s getting on in years, after all, and we’re prepared for any outcome. This surgery was indeed timely. All we can do now is to leave the rest to fate.”

Lysander asked, “How are things going at Mr. Everhart’s factory?”

Daphne chuckled wryly. “How can we even compare to Guerra Group? Since Josiah wants to collaborate, no one will choose us. I’ve been talking to my dad these past few days, mentally preparing him for the worst. If things really don’t work out, we might as well shut down the company. After all, we still have some savings at home. He could take my mom on a vacation and relax.”

“Daphne, do you have Zane’s WhatsApp?”

“Yeah, I bet that guy is still lurking around in Instagram playing some sort of undercover game. What about it? Did he offend you?”
