Josiah furrowed his brows in pain as he thought about the past.
Upon hearing this, Maverick was particularly infuriated. “Lysa is your daughter, but what have you done for her? You allowed someone else to replace her and even let her be bullied. You were indifferent to her in the past, and only when your family business needed someone to inherit and clean up the mess did you think of her!”
Lysander noticed that Maverick didn’t look well, and she was particularly worried about his health. She quickly reached out to pat his back to help him breathe easier, fearing that his anger might lead to something serious. “Dad, I —”

“Don’t speak!” Maverick warned in a low voice. “I must help you seek justice in this matter. They lost you for no reason, and now they want to claim you back without any explanation. Over twenty years have passed with a single word. On what grounds?”
Howard didn’t offer any explanations, but he said with a sense of guilt, “Lysa, Maverick is right. We indeed owe you an explanation. Maverick, for over twenty years, it’s been you and your wife who have been caring for her. I have no right to dispute with you over our daughter. I only hope that you would give us a chance to join you in taking care of her.”
Maverick’s anger slightly subsided when he heard those words. His voice then took on a noticeably more weathered tone.
“I’m known for being straightforward, and that’s just how it is, I’ve raised Lysa since she was little, and she’s been mistreated once before. Last time, I was blind and failed to see people’s true colors. This time, I absolutely won’t let Lysa suffer any injustice.”

Hearing that, Maverick sighed and shook his head. “This is my fault. I thought being strict would be better for my children. I didn’t anticipate it would foster such a selfless nature in you. I truly am to blame for this.
“No!” Lysander firmly refuted. “I’m a doctor. Shouldn’t I always prioritize the patient’s needs? Your strictness toward me is justified.”
Maverick said in a heartbroken tone, “In fact, you’ve always been the pride of your mother and me. Having a wonderful daughter like you has always been a great honor for us. I just didn’t expect that you would be so kind–hearted as to take over their family business, giving up your own career. It’s such a pity. Being a doctor has always been your dream since you were a child. The thought of you giving up on it just pains me…”
“Dad…”
“When I found out you were accepted into Harborbrook Medical University, I was so thrilled I barely slept that night. When you later became a doctor, I bragged about it to anyone I could. I assumed that your return this time was to further your studies in medicine. I never expected you to give up halfway because of them.”
His words were tinged with regret, yet he couldn’t bring himself to utter even half a sentence of blame toward Lysander.
Lysander said anxiously, “Dad, given the chance, I’ll go back to being a doctor.”
Seeing her eyes turn red, Maverick felt a wave of discomfort in his heart. He quickly lifted his rough hand to wipe her tears away.
All right, Lysa. Don’t cry. I didn’t mean anything else by my words. I simply believe that saving lives as a doctor is far more noble than engaging in ruthless business competition for money. You genuinely love medicine. Switching careers after being an expatriate would be a waste of your talent and the years of effort you’ve put in,” Maverick said.
“I never intended to change my career completely. I’ve thought it through. Once I get through this period and stabilize Thorne Constructions and Energies or find a reliable successor, I’ll return immediately,” she
said.
Maverick was somewhat worried. “Can you really return? After you leave, the hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology department can’t be without a doctor, right? They’d have to bring in someone from elsewhere. By then, would there even be/a position left for you-‘

I cant get over the fact that the writer is trying to show as if the male lead has committed a grave sin. First he didnt know she was pregnant because she never told him. Second right from the start she never communicated anything. She was unbothered even during her marriage. I am not saying the male lead is great but atleast he seems like a human with emotions unlike her. And there is no context for why she is so emotionless....
The female lead is not charming but an unbothered b word, there is a very big difference. There is no point of extending this story at all because even if you write 1000+ chapters at 1001 the male lead would still be doing everything for her and she wouldnt bat an eye even if someone killed him. I mean honestly either the start should have been written better where we do understand that she was deeply affected because of her divorce or just STOPPPPP. Even for fiction it is annoying....
