Exposing the Charade of Deep Affection (PDF) novel Chapter 154

Chapter 154 He Sent Roy to Investigate Ashley.

Emma frowned, pursed her lips, and didn’t say anything more.

I didn’t ask further either. There are many things that you can probably guess without thinking.

However, what surprised me was Ashley. I wondered when she had a falling out with Carley. Given that she was known as the lifesaver of Walter, even if Carley didn’t like her, she wouldn’t have spoken ill of her. The last time I accidentally bumped into them, it seemed that Carley really disliked her and had a falling out with her.

There must have been something going on that I didn’t know about.

Half an hour later, the doctors in the ward gradually came out. Emma and I hurried in to check on Carley’s condition. Inside the ward, Walter looked pale, his forehead covered in sweat, appearing to be nervous.

In the hospital bed, Carley was covered with tubes and various instruments. Fortunately, her breathing was steady and nothing seemed unusual. The doctor had just said that her condition had stabilized.

Emma looked at me and Walter, seemingly wanting to say something but hesitated.

“Mr. Hinton.” Outside the door, Roy softly knocked and spoke.

Walter looked up, giving him a slight nod before turning his gaze to me and Emma. He looked at Emma and called out, “Sister-in-law.” Then his gaze fell on me, his expression unreadable as he said, “You and sister-in-law stay here with grandma for a while.”

I nodded, didn’t say much, and watched him leave with indifference.

As soon as Walter left, Emma set aside the rice wine porridge he had brought. Then, she turned her gaze towards me. After a slight hesitation, she began, “Tabatha, you and Walter…”

I smiled lightly, changing the subject, “Sister-in-law, my elder brother should be landing soon, have you arranged for someone to pick him up?”

She nodded, “Dale would arrange for someone to go.”

Perhaps realizing that I didn’t want to say much, Emma didn’t continue to ask further.

Not long after, Carley woke up. She was lying in the hospital bed, still a bit groggy when she opened her eyes. Emma was the first to notice her awakening, abruptly standing up from his seat and hurriedly asking, “Grandma, are you awake?”

Hearing her voice, I walked over to take a look, seeing Carley with her eyes wide open, her mouth moving as if to speak, but she seemed unable to make a sound.

Seeing her like this, I noticed her lip movements, probably indicating she wanted water. Emma and I used a cotton swab to moisten her lips with water, then we fed her a few small sips of water.

After a short while, she finally made a sound, uttering a sentence, “Where is Walter?”

This question was directed at me.

Hearing this, I quickly said, “He went out.”

“Go get him,” Carley spoke, her voice hoarse.

I nodded, didn’t ask much and left the ward.

Outside the ward, Dale was still there, and so was Ashley. I was somewhat surprised that she hadn’t left.

But he didn’t ask much, just asked Dale if he had seen Walter.

Dale said that Walter and Roy had gone towards the corridor, probably to discuss company matters at the entrance of the stairwell.

Seeing this, I walked in the direction he had pointed out.

Not far from the staircase, before I even entered, I heard Walter’s deep and restrained voice, “Just handle the rest as you see fit.” It seemed that the matter had already been explained.
