Chapter 197 She Had No Evidence, Neither Did I

Perhaps provoked by my words, she clenched her fists tightly, her eyes glaring at me with a fiery red, “Tabatha, what are you so arrogant about? Do you think you’ve won? Don’t forget, Henry is dead, and you killed him. I only served two years in prison, what about you? Do you think you’ve gotten away with it just because you hid Henry’s body? You’re wrong. As soon as the police find Henry’s body, for murder and hiding the corpse, you’ll spend the rest of your life in prison.”

Watching her shamelessly, I was amused to the point of laughter. This person is addicted to framing others, how could she take it seriously?

“Me, in jail?” I laughed, “Ashley, have you forgotten who exactly killed Henry? Have you gotten so lost in your act that you’ve forgotten the facts? You should be grateful that no one can find Henry’s body now, otherwise, you would be the one rotting in jail!”

She sneered, “Really? Any evidence? What proof is there to show that I killed the person?” Seeing that I remained silent, she laughed coldly, becoming increasingly arrogant, “Tabatha, you have no evidence, and that’s exactly why you can only hide that bastard’s body. Speaking of which, I should thank you for hiding the body for me.”

Disgusted by her shamelessness, I no longer wanted to continue the conversation with her at that time.

He put down the walkie-talkie in his hand, no longer speaking.

Seeing me like this, she suddenly slapped the thick glass window, gesturing for me to pick up the intercom. Because the commotion was too loud, it attracted the attention of the police outside who were on guard, and they took her away.

I was somewhat irritated. Coming here turned out to be a waste of time. If I had known that there was nothing much to talk about with her, I shouldn’t have come.

Upon leaving the police station lobby, I unfortunately ran into an acquaintance – Walter.

The man was handsome and resolute, standing out even among a group of stern-looking police officers. I saw him talking to Lucas, but I had no intention of going up to greet them.

Prepared to lower my presence and leave directly.

“Ms. Conner.” I hadn’t taken more than a few steps when I was stopped by Lucas. Glancing at him, I managed to pull out a smile and greeted him stiffly, “Lucas.”

Looking at me, Lucas gave a faint smile, “Are you going back?”

I nodded, “Hmm.”

Having finished, I didn’t look at Walter standing next to me, but directly left the police station lobby, went to the car, and prepared to find the keys to drive away.

“Tabatha.” A voice came from behind me, not loud, but very close to

Hearing the familiar tone, I turned around and indeed, it was Walter. He was standing less than half a meter away from me. I pursed my lips, “What’s up?”

He looked at me, his expression unchanged, his voice calm, “I lere to see Ashley?”

I frowned, wasn’t he here to see Ashley too? Why was he talking so much nonsense? I pursed my lips and asked, “Do you need

something?”

He glanced at the car behind me and asked, “Are you leaving?”

I still nodded, he had been beating around the bush with me for a long time without stating his purpose, which made me impatient. I said directly, “It’s okay, I’m leaving first.”

After speaking, I got into the driver’s seat.

“Bang!”

“Bang!”

Two sounds of doors closing, one from the driver’s seat, the other from the passenger’s.

Looking at Walter who followed, I frowned, “Do you need something?”

He bowed his head to fasten his seatbelt, “My car broke down, wait for me for a while. I’m going to the hospital.”

I frowned, looking at his face that seemed to take everything for granted, and couldn’t help but be taken aback. Was he… hitching a ride?

Biting my lip, I said no more, started the car, and left the police station.

On the road, I thought I could enjoy a quiet journey, but unexpectedly, Walter suddenly brought up a topic with me, “How are you preparing for the bidding documents for several projects in the southern district?”

“Almost there,” I said, responding quite indifferently

He nodded, saying, “We can arrange to have a meal with the head of the city government in advance, and talk over the dinner table.”
