Lost in Mr. Preston's Temptation novel Chapter 40

Clara thought that Ruby had changed her number and contacted her and so she immediately answered.

“Hello?”

“Ms. Clara Rowan? “ The person on the phone asked politely.

Seeing that it wasn’t Ruby, Clara’s heart sank once again and she responded, “Speaking. What’s the matter?”

“I’m from EMC Group’s personnel department.” The caller said politely, “We are interested in your resume. Are you free to come to EMC for an interview at 9:00 on Wednesday?”

Clara remembered that she had sent her resume to Donny. She hadn’t expected to receive a call today.

“Yes, do I need to bring anything?”

After completing her studies and returning from D country, Clara pretty much did not work. She would occasionally go abroad to help Steve, but she had never gone to other companies for interviews.

She wrote down the information she needed to bring for the interview, talked a bit, and then hung up the phone just as she arrived home.

After entering the house, Clara took off her coat and hung it on the hanger. She found that there was a thin black windbreaker hanging on the rack. As she approached it, she could smell a seemingly invisible fragrance.

It seemed to be... perfume?

“Mae.” Clara hung up her coat and asked, “Is Ethan back?”

Mae nodded. “He came back two hours ago, but he went to the study with Donny after coming back. I brought them black tea. It seems that they are busy with work.”

Clara turned around and looked at the windbreaker on the shelf again, quickly forgetting about the perfume.

The man she had seen at the dessert shop that noon had not been wearing a windbreaker.

It seemed that it really wasn’t Ethan Preston.

Knowing that Ethan was working upstairs, Clara didn’t go and bother him. Instead, she teamed up with Baxter and played games with him in the living room until dinner.

Just as the servants were serving dinner on the table, Ethan and Donny came downstairs.

Ethan was wearing a white shirt and trousers. He looked handsome, and the cuffs of his shirt were slightly bent, revealing his smooth forearms underneath.

Maybe because he was working too long, exhaustion showed between his eyebrows. However, his indifferent expression was no different from usual.

Clara couldn’t help but worry that he still insisted on working today even after such a significant injury, “Ethan, is your injury okay?”

“It’s just a minor injury on my back.” Ethan pulled away the chair opposite hers and sat down, his tone a little impatient. “Focus on your own affairs, there’s no need to focus on me all the time.”

Clara was about to thank him, but after hearing the latter half of his words, she unconsciously squeezed her chopsticks.

Did he think she was too nosy?

Yes, their marriage was only a transaction, it wasn’t like they were really husband and wife. In addition, everything she had was from him, why did she want to control him so much...

“Sorry.” Clara lowered her head to eat and didn’t saying anything else.

Ethan seemed to sense Clara’s subtle change. He looked at her and frowned slightly.

However, as was his habit, he was too lazy to give an explanation.

Baxter glanced at Ethan and then at Clara. He obviously felt that the atmosphere on the table had changed. He, who always loved to talk, didn’t talk, and ate his food quietly.

The people around the dinner table finished their dinner in silence.

Ethan still had work to deal with and quickly went upstairs. Baxter went back to playing games with Clara.

“Madam, please don’t take what Ethan said while eating to heart.” Baxter quietly told Clara, “Ethan might look cold and indifferent, but sometimes he gets even more passionate than my brother...”

“Before when Ethan was almost shot in the heart, he didn’t take it seriously. He definitely won’t take this small injury seriously.”

Clara had been in a bad mood, but now she was shocked by what Baxter was saying, “When did that happen? Was it those brothers...... of his?”

When she had been reading news about the Prestons before, she had learned that the Prestons inherited according to birth order.
