Enigma novel Chapter 8

It’s been almost a week since we came to Greycoast. The week at school had been quite eventful to say the least.

That girl, Arabella, she feels different. There is something familiar and captivating about her. She has been the constant topic of our conversation these couple days.

“Do you think she is a part of a pack?” Archer asked from beside me.

We are camped beside a river today and Hudson is taking his time with bathing in the river.

“Maybe.”

“That alpha was right then. There is a pack here.”

I hummed.

We were a fairly decent pack a month ago but the attack killed the rest as we weren’t shifted and our parents were killed protecting us. We were told to flee and we did. Only the children but they caught up. Only three of us survived. All thanks to that Alpha.

A wolf spirit came to help us and killed the majority of the attackers. The rest of them fled. He told us to come here and find the spirit walker. That’s what we are trying to do so far but we didn’t have any luck yet. Since then we have been living in these woods, changing our camps daily and covering our tracks. It’s hard living like this.

The Alpha hadn’t come here yet either. He said he will come soon but there is no sign of him till this day. It’s been almost a month now.

It’s Saturday today. I am glad the week ended. We at least have a little time to relax.

Between hunting and looking over our backs, school was an additional hazard but we need to go to school. Our parents wouldn’t have liked it if we had flunked our education.

“Where did Hudson go?” Archer said, panic clearly visible on his face.

He got up to his feet looking around. Shit! Where did he go? Did they take him?

We looked near the river but couldn’t find him.

“Guys look what I found.” Hudson’s voice came from behind us as he came running out.

“You moron. We thought someone took you.” I bellowed.

“Sorry about that. I saw a silhouette of something from the river so I went to check it. You wouldn’t believe what I found. Come on. Follow me.”

He ran back in the forest as we followed him. We came into a clearing and stopped looking at the little cabin there.

“There is a cabin here.” He announced proudly.
