Chapter 111 The Castle on the Island

Outside the door was a road. William started the car and drove it out, then continued along the road. Before long, I saw a lake. In the center of the lake were several castle-like buildings that resembled churches. From a distance, it seemed as if I had been to the seventeenth or eighteenth century.

The road to the castle was a tarred road built along the mountain. I stuck my head out to look at the place I had just come down from, which was a cliff as high as a hundred meters. The elevator William just talked about was attached to the cliff wall.

Returning to my seat, I looked at the castle in the lake and asked, “Is there only one way to this castle?”

William said, “Logically speaking, there should be people who have come down from the surrounding mountains. However, it’s very dangerous, and these mountains are steep, which is unsafe.”

I nodded, the terrain here was unique, with steep mountains surrounding the vast lake. Honestly, only the wealthy would come here to spend a fortune building castles.

However, once inside this place, it was indeed safe. If the police really wanted to investigate something, they probably wouldn’t be able to find any evidence. It was basically impossible for them to infiltrate.

No wonder Lucas said this place was special, and it was difficult to operate from the police station. So that’s how it was.

The car drove all the way to the edge of a bridge, where someone was waiting. As the car stopped, the person walked over.

William handed over his business card, and the man respectfully went to park William’s car. William and I crossed the bridge and headed straight for the castle.

The structure of the castle was complex, with one entrance, which was a staircase.

William seemed to have been here before. Seeing my apprehension, he turned back to look at me and smiled, “Don’t be afraid, there’s nothing special inside. It’s all modern architecture, no vampires, no bats.”

He made me laugh, and I couldn’t help but ask, “How did you know I was thinking about these things?”

He gave a faint smile, “Books like to write it this way, and movies also like to use gloomy castles to create a terrifying atmosphere.”

That was indeed the case.

Talking to him, we entered the castle, which wasn’t as terrifying as we thought.

Aside from its appearance, it was no different from modern buildings. The lobby on the first floor was bustling with noise, and at the card tables, people were happily playing with their chips.

Probably noticing someone coming in, a middle-aged man dressed in a suit, with a big belly, came over. He looked at William with a full- faced smile and said, “Mr. William, what wind brought you here? Such a rare guest.”

William nodded slightly, looking at the man and said, “Ethan, I heard that Henry has returned. I came to pay a visit. Do you know if he is here?”

The man was taken aback for a moment, but quickly regained his composure and laughed, “What are you talking about, Mr. William? In

this small place of mine, there’s no way such a high-ranking official would come. Don’t scare me like that. Besides, everyone knows that Henry left years ago. It’s impossible for him to come back!”

William laughed, saying, “Oh, really? How come I saw him just a couple of days ago? My grandmother had a birthday party, and I saw that he sent a gift. I came here specifically to thank him. Ethan, you’re not unwelcoming me, are you?”

Upon hearing his words, Ethan was taken aback for a moment. After a pause, he looked at William and said, “Did Henry really come back? Let me make a call to ask. Look at how busy I am, I can’t even remember things.”

Even I, who don’t understand human nature and accidents, could see that this Ethan was always playing dumb. This Ethan, it’s really… hard to say.

He made a show of making a phone call. Although it was unclear whether he was really calling or just pretending, he was seen nodding and bowing to the person on the other end of the line. After hanging up, he turned to William with a smile on his face and said, “Henry is really something, coming back without telling me. Mr. William, you go upstairs and rest first. Henry said he’ll be right over.”

Saying so, he extended his hand, gesturing for us to wait upstairs.
