Lost in Mr. Preston's Temptation novel Chapter 65

“Mr. Lane, you are overthinking things.” After a few seconds, the assistant couldn’t help but speak, “The Preston family is one of the four major families in the Sweetriver area, and the rules are strict. Even if Mr. Preston is now in power, he can’t escape the fate of an arranged marriage. He can’t get a certificate with Clara Rowan...”

If it was before, Steve would have just listened.

However, today, his assistant’s words seemed harsh, and his face fell.” The Rowan family previously had considerable status in J city. It is not impossible for Ms. Rowan to marry into the Preston family.”

“You said yourself ‘previously’...” The assistant looked at Steve and said carefully, “Don’t you hate Ms. Rowan?”

Why was he unhappy as soon as he mentioned Clara Rowan?

His face had frozen as soon as he heard his assistant. He also felt that his actions were a bit abnormal.

Steve pulled off his tie. “Have you picked up Roland yet?”

Roland was the only survivor who had escaped from that fire, and he was also the one who had told Steve the truth.

Afterwards Steve had given him a sum of money and had him live in his hometown.

Steve had his assistant call Roland. He wanted to ask him to come over for dinner, so he could ask him about that event again.

The assistant did not answer immediately, and his face was drawn.

Seeing that his assistant wanted to say something but hesitated, Steve had a hunch, and his heart gradually sank. “Did Roland have an accident?”

“...yes.” The assistant lowered his head again and reported the situation to him. “The grandson who was going to pick up Roland, told me that he had found his house, but after going inside had found Roland dead. After the doctor investigated, they said that Roland had died two hours earlier from a heart attack.”

“Where was the nurse?”

The assistant answered, “The nurse who took care of Roland happened to be at the hospital picking up medicine for him.”

In a split second, Steve’s face paled.

The assistant looked at Steve, “When Roland escaped from the fire, his organs suffered damaged in many places, and his health has always been poor. It’s normal for him to die.”

“It’s normal for him to die, but why now?” Steve frowned and asked his assistant again.

Why was he fine yesterday, but just when he happened to send some to pick him up, had an accident?

The assistant didn’t think there was anything wrong with the timing. “Heart attacks are common. Even children sometimes have it, and Roland’s health was not good.”

Steve sat there silently; his face becoming colder and colder. The assistant did not dare to speak.

After a long time, Steve said lightly, “Find someone to deal with Roland’s funeral. Also, go pay his neighbors and ask them what Roland talked about with them after he moved in, or if anyone had gone to see him.”

The assistant understood what Steve meant and was startled, “You suspect Roland’s death... is fishy?”

“He died at the wrong time.” Steve was frowning.
