My Brother's Best Friend Is My Mate novel Chapter 35

After my much needed bath, I felt alot better like I could save an entire city. I plop down on the bed in the room and instantly feel as if I could go asleep right now, right here. The bee's sheets are comfortably soft and fluffy and I just want to slip under the covers and forget everything that has happened in the past few days. My thoughts are riding me like demons. I desperately search for something else to do to get my mind off every thing it's churning in my head but the only thing I can find is my sorrowful thoughts, and there are lots of them. "Emerald.." A voice intrudes my overthinking, to my relief and Spencer opens the door and steps in my room. She's wearing a unicorn themed pajama set and her hair is still bunched up in a messy pony tail. "Sarah wants us to come downstairs." Spencer says before I can speak. I nod and follow her downstairs, this time as always, taking the elevator. "I honestly cannot get used to riding the elevator each time I want to go downstairs." I tell Spencer who laughs. We both head to the kitchen to see Sarah. We find her chopping up some carrots on the cutting board with a pile of leafy vegetables nearby. A pot on the stove is boiling and steam is rising out of it and Sarah hurries over to check on it. "Can you girls help me?" Sarah asked, looking at Spencer and I. "I can't cook to save my life." Spencer says at the same time I say, "we'll help." Spencer laughs and I roll my eyes at her, and go over to help Sarah as Spencer leaves the kitchen. "So what are you preparing?" I ask Liam's mom. She has added the carrots and the other chopped vegetables into the boiling pot and a mouth watering smell is working its way into my nostrils. " A stew from my mother's own recipes." She says and smiles proudly. "Okay. What can I do to help?" I ask Sarah. "Nothing." She replies simply and my brows furrow into confusion. "You can help by keeping me company." She explains seeing my confused state. I nervously nod, silently pleading that she doesn't ask me any embarrassing questions. "So Emerald, what are you studying in school?" Sarah asks looking genuinely interested. I let out a sigh of relief and answer her question. "Well I want to be a English professor so I mostly study everything English related, and other compulsory subjects like Maths and Science. " I tell Sarah who nods. She finishes putting everything into the pot and sits down beside me on one if the stools placed at the island. "You're so much like her." Sarah says having a dreamy look in her eyes, as if she's stuck in a trance. "Who?" I ask. She laughs. "Your mother, silly." She says and I also laugh. "She was thinking the same things you are thinking at your age, it's almost like your the exact replica of her, except the age difference of course. She was so quiet and simple, humble and honest." Sarah says. This is all new to me, my mother never told me she knew Sarah. "I didn't know that you guys knew each other." I voice my thoughts, and Sarah looks extremely surprised. "Why dear, we were bestfriends in high school." Liam's mom tells me, much to my surprise. "Really?" I ask, although I know Sarah is telling the truth. "Yes, my dear. We're still friends of course. But our friendship isn't as strong as it used to be. It has been tempted by secrets and lies, coming from both parties." Sarah says having a faraway look in her brown, warm eyes. "Oh." I say quietly. I can never imagine anything strong enough to destroy the friendship Spencer and I have spent so long building up. I don't like keeping secrets, or anything at all from Spencer but I know that deep down Spencer has alot of things she hasn't told me yet. I don't like being lied to, it hurts especially when it comes from someone I really trust or someone I thought would never lie to me, or cause me any pain. Like Jack. "Anyways, enough of the past. Let's look at that stew!" Sarah exclaims and stands to get go over to the stove. She opens the pot with the help of a cloth pot holder, and a lovely smell escapes the pot. I was too busy soaking up the smell of heaven to notice that Liam had entered the room. "Hey, Emerald." I jump slightly and blushed. My name sounded so sexy coming from his lips and I just wanted to spend all day staring at his perfection. "Emerald." Liam says again, snapping me out of my trance. I look up at him again, my face pink with embarrassment. "Yes?" A voice I think is mine answers. Liam shifts his hand and it scratches his head, a trademark I've seen him do before, mostly when he's nervous. "Can I speak with you for a moment?" He asks and I nod, not trusting my stupid mouth to speak for me. I would probably embarrass myself even more than I have already. I hear a giggle coming from behind me, most likely from Sarah.
